St. Augustine Beach KOA
Reviewed September 4, 2013 via mobile

We have stayed here many times and love it. Close to beach and all attractions in St. Augustine. The campgrounds were clean and and well maintained. The owners and staff are very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended!

Have stayed here twice . It is very crowded and very loud at night . Lots of dogs barking in the early morning . It really needs some work done . Bathrooms were horrible !!! Also needs to change the GPS , it has you taking a right on Pope Road instead of a left when coming from the highway . It's not like you can make a U-turn in a rv .

We stayed in 4 different KOA's in Florida and this was by far the worst. Too crowded- in a very small spot. Bathhouse was like walking into a battle against Mosquitos that you could not win. They were not air-conditioned and always hot and muggy which equaled more Mosquitos than I could have imagined. This was one of the more expensive KOA's on our trip and should have been cleaner!

Have stayed at this KOA several times over the past several years. The campground itself is becoming worn and in need of routine maintenance. There were a lot of people working, but the overall campground is in need of a lot of repairs. The grass was cut and there was not trash on the grounds. Sites overall were clean. Bath houses were well maintained. Privacy fence was falling down in many places. Flags at the entrance were worn and tattered. This does not project a positive impression. I have complained many times about the laundry closing at 5PM daily and it still does. They state there is a 24 hour laundry at the secondary bath house, but it is outdoors, only 3 washers and 2 dryers, very worn machines and usually the area is covered in mosquitoes. The indoor laundry needs to stay open at least till 9PM. People traveling many times do their laundry in the evening while they sit and relax or take a dip in the pool. I did notice the pool closure time was expanded from 6PM to 8PM. Somebody listened on that one. The secondary bath house does not have a circulating air fan or air conditioning. During the day, it is super hot, in excess of 95 degrees, inside. This not good for your health. On one of the wooden ramps going to the men's restroom there were exposed nail heads. Someone that was bear footed could rip their foot open on these nails. The channel guide in the check in brochure corresponds to the cable company and they are now on Direct TV so the listings are not accurate. I have noticed that many people in previous reviews refer to the rude lady in the office. I too have encountered her and have endured her rudeness for the past several years. Why would you want a person that treats customers as a bother and nuisance, greeting your customers as a first contact? She IS rude and unhelpful. KOA Corporate needs to investigate this person. The prices keep going up here and it is quite expensive to stay here. Four days, 2 adults and an 11 year old child, about $220 (resort prices? you are over a block from the beach). There are NO supervised evening activities offered for families or kids. Office closes very early so you cannot rent the paddle boats, bicycles or kids scooters in the evening. For the money, this should be a first class campground, it is not, only average, however they are the best choice of the few full service campgrounds in the area. I have noticed that the campground is never very crowded as it was several years ago. Could it be that people are not putting up the price increases, lack of attention to detail and the rudeness of some of the staff? I like the St. Augustine area and will most likely return, for less days due to the expense. For an average campground this KOA is ok overall, but I feel it is not up to the standards that KOA's project as their cooperate image.

Room Tip: Most nights the office closes at 5PM so you will be subject to an after hours check in. Arrive mid a...

A one night stop for us during a road trip, tenting. Nearby state park gates close at sunset, and we wanted to go out to dinner. First of all, it was $$$ for a tent site, $45 inc. tax. We had an entire corner of the park to ourselves, but I can imagine that during busy nights, tents would almost be on top of each other. It was really wet too, but it seemed like there had been more rain than usual. It was on the corner of two busy streets too, so we did wear earplugs to sleep. We had an amazing dinner at the Barley House in town, which I totally recommend. The bathrooms were adequate, there were laundry machines, and it was a place to sleep.

If you are looking for a cheap alternative to a hotel in st Augustine, this campground might be for you. We rented the fully furnished, with linens, cabin and were pleased with our choice. Complete with full bathroom, gas grill, fire pit and a view of "lake" we had all we needed for a great weekend in St Augustine.

The trolly provides transportation to Old Town, a huge bonus bc parking is horrible. The beach is about a mile away - easy if you have bikes. You can drive and park on the beach beginning at A street, just South of KOA.

As a destination campground, I wouldn't consider it. There is a playground, pool and game room, but they are all old and in disrepair. There is no security at the entrance so anyone can wander in and hang out. I wouldn't feel comfortable with my kids walking around by themselves in this small campground.

The ducks are cute.
