We stopped here on a whim as we were driving out of St. Augustine and wanted a cup of coffee. Didn't sample the whole menu, but we were impressed by Italian caffe, great baked goods, and friendly owners. We lingered longer than we'd planned because of the sweet atmosphere with lots of fun mementos and kitchenware for decoration. It's worth a stop anytime.

A must go if you are anywhere near the St augustine area. The sauce is so good y
ou could drink it.. the veal melts inyour mouth. Our server Jo was a delight. This is an intimate atmosphere. Eight tables inside and a few tables outside. Makes you feel like you are in mom's kitchen for Sunday supper. The portions are generous, the wine is good. We are returning again before we go back to pompano unfortunately we can not pack this restaurant and the people who who own it and work there and take them with us.

Hubby and I are both Italian and we went to this little eclectic eatery on the suggestions of TripAdvisor patrons. I can tell you that if my Italian Grandma would have served my Italian Grandpa a delicate fish that was drowning in butter and burnt garlic, he would have shouted a few choice words and made a few hand gestures before storming out. My meal was not good. The “bed” of spinach was about 6 leaves and were also dripping in butter and my delicate fish had absorbed so much of the butter that it lost all its own flavor. Even my beautiful pasta, which was cooked to perfection, had been covered with so much oil that I couldn’t eat but a few bites and the garlic was hard, brown and crunchy. My meal was a big thumbs down. To their credit, hubby’s meal, Suppa De’ Pesce, was good but not great. We had to ask for lemon (two fish dishes and no one brings lemon?) It was lacking flavor but the pasta was cooked perfect and it was stuffed with seafood so it was OK. We were also a bit surprised that the salad was miniscule considering the cost of the meal. I don’t think our meal was worth another visit, all considered. For 2 people at $60.00 and only one glass of wine, we both expected better.

We are sorry you didi not enjoy your meal with us.We sell a lot of seafood dishes and have never before received complaints about not serving lemon with all seafood. WE believe some dishes call for lemon, but not all. If you requested lemon I am certain your server brought you some in a timely fashion.
Perhaps you didn't read the description in our menu of our Flounder Florentine prior to ordering it. It is described as sauteed in butter with fresh garlic & spinach. It does not say it is on a bed of spinach.
About our garlic-we have a pet peeve about serving raw garlic as we believe it ruins the food, we make sure the garlic is sauteed golden before adding other ingredients to ensure a cooked taste.
If your dish came out too toasted for your taste, we are sorry but many customers have ordered this dish and been happy with it. One should expect a dish decribed as being in butter sauce to be buttery, but you can always ask for light butter if that is your preference.
Italy has a variety of cuisines & stlyes depending on what region you hail from. We are serving Sicilian homestyle cooking which may be very different from the cuisine your grandparents favored. We know we cannot please everyone and again we are sorry you did not find our food as wonderful as most of our reviewers have been so kind to share with the Tripadvisor community.

We are part-time residents and for almost three years we were told that Casa Benedetto's Italian Cafe had wonderful food, but never checked it out. We decided to try it tonight! We are so glad that we did! The setting of the restaurant is charming and homey. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive and the owners are very personable and charming! And the food; oh, my goodness! The fresh baked bread is served with real butter (and great for getting every bit of the sauce from the bowl! I ate the Chicken Scarpariello which was a new dish for me. It was absolutely delicious with its Italian sausage and peppers. My husband had the gnocchi with the Alfredo sauce and it was the best we have ever eaten. The tiramisu is authentically made and it certainly was sweet and thick. It too was the best we have ever eaten. It was a delightful experience and will be back very soon to try more dishes from their extensive menu.

Don't be fooled by the unassuming decor. The food is excellent - authentic Italian, prepared to order using fresh ingredients (no garlic out of a jar here).
