We were rushing on our vacation from Orlando to a condo further up the beach. And we almost stopped for dinner at a chain restaurant in Palm Coast ... and I'm so thankful that we passed that up looking for something with some local flavor.

Instead we turned into the parking lot on the Southern end of the bridge that crosses Matanzas Inlet and had the Florida experience that we were looking for.

We sat outside on the patio at twilight and enjoyed some great views and great seafood. I had blackened fish with rice and beans. This is definitely a casual eatery and the outside deck had cement and wooden picnic benches.

There were beautiful views across Matanzas Inlet and we watched the sun set behind Rattlesnake Island.

We sat inside because of the wait for the deck. Still had a great view! The server Sam was working tables outside and in and it took her several minutes to even stop by our table. We ordered drinks and a dozen oysters and didn't see her again for about 10 more minutes. Finally got our drinks and had to wait again for her to come back and take our food order. Oysters neve came but our food finally did. Pointed out that our oysters never came and we still wanted them and asked her to take them off the check. The oysters finally arrived and we only saw Sam once more during our meal before she brought our check. Overall very dissappointing experience. Never took the oysters off. Will not be returning.

A weather alert shortened our trip North on coastal route A1A. We swung into the parking lot at the Matanzas River Inlet restaurant just ahead of the rain. Getting stuck out in the rain is bad. Getting stuck at the Matanzas Inlet restaurant is good. Very good mixed drinks and cold beer helped weather the storm. As did the steamed clams and chowder. The food and a waitress with a great attitude and plenty of local knowledge made us forget about the storm. We thoroughly enjoyed our dark and stormy afternoon.

This was just a nice place. We went with a group of 14 and although it was noisy inside, the noise was being made by us. I apologize to others there, but they didn't seem to mind. I had the Cesar Chicken Wrap, which was absolutely delicious and big. I had the second half for supper that night.
Friends had a variety of dishes and I didn't hear one real complaint. One did mention the soup wasn't as good as she could make, but then she is a great cook.
The service was wonderful, the server was such a happy and friendly person. She put up with our questions and never lost the smile.
I would highly recommend trying this place. It isn't fancy, but then casual is how we do it here in Florida. The outside seating gave a beautiful view of the Matanzas Innlet.
Definitely try it you won't be disappointed.

It was raining and generally not a great day to be out. However, an oyster po'boy and sweet potato fries beckoned me to brave the inclement weather. It was worth the trip and the dampness. the service was tops...thanks Courtney! The food great as always, still the best bargain for your money. The weather cleared enough to walk out on the deck and take pictures. Some dinners even ate out there despite the weather. The wait staff was gracious and quick to serve them as well as the customers inside. The restaurant is clean as are the restrooms. The bar area is separate from but convenient to the dining area. I'll be back for sure...
