We had booked at another Inn when we were "bumped" for a wedding party. An arrangement had been made for us to stay at Penny Farthing, we were told we would have a king sized bed, and jacuzzi for an amended price. With excitement we headed for the PF. We encountered a tawdry, unkempt exterior, broken railings and peeling paint. The door sported a push keypad. We rang the bell and it was answered eventually. The owner of the prior Inn was there, unfortunately he was unaware of the situation which we explained. At this point a most disheveled man appeared and asked for our credit card..no introduction, no hello or welcome. I asked to see the room first and he reluctantly took us upstairs. We entered the most shabby looking room containing a queen bed, on looking around I noticed the bathroom which contained a small tub with three or four small jets..this was the jacuzzi? I could not believe the general upkeep of this place. I commend the photographer for his beautiful photos of this Inn but I have to wonder where he obtained them or how old they are. Needless to say we refused the room and found somewhere else to stay where we were welcomed and the room was clean and in a safer area of the city. Be warned before booking here

Please read on to all of our other wonderful reviews, as this is not a true description of our inn!
We were asked by another innkeeper if we would be able to accomodate 2 couples that they had over booked. We had two rooms available. One being the Attic which has a Jacuzzi and a King size bed and the other being the Cherry Rose which is a smaller room with a Queen size bed and a Victorian claw bath tub that has absoulutly zero ability of being the so called "Jacuzzi tub with 3 or 4 jets" that was mentioned above! Who stayed in which room was discussed on their end then told to us. The couple they said who would be staying in the (Attic) showed up with-in the hour time frame the innkeeper said they would arrive. They loved the room (read review by Darren & Lotta). About 2 hours later the next couple showed up who understandably were upset by the double booking they had encountered. They for some reason thought they were going to be getting a King size bed and jacuzzi as the other couple did... this is not our fault! We always make sure each guest is happy and comfortable and we understand that they would be upset when going from inn to inn and not having things be the way they thought, but to give these negative responses to a place you never stayed at is beyond us! Our rooms are exactly like the photos we display on our website... current and accurate! We are always complemented on our ability to maintain the beauty of a 130 year old Victorian home... our home!

We were married in June of 2011 at this wonderful B&B and returned for our first wedding anniversary in June of 2012 and Marie and Dave made our dreams become reality over and above anything we could have come up with. Marie took care of every detail of both occasions so beautifully from the wedding cake to the photographer, to dinner and the horse and carriage, we just showed up and ended up feeling like the happiest couple in the world it was truly a magical time and we hope to be able to return every year for the warm hospitality great food and unforgettable whole experience we stayed in Penny's Attic and we really enjoyed the love letters and little soldiers. We highly recommend any one that wants to have a lifetime memorable experience that you just wish you could have over and over again to make this your destination you will be so happy you did. All our love to Marie and Dave.
Thank you for everything

Room Tip: Penny's Attic by far the best room. Its the most private room for a romantic time

A brief get away up the northeast coast of Florida brought us to Saint Augustine for one night. Over the years we've stayed in many B and B's in the old city including this one ten plus years ago. We shouldn't have been surprised to hear this inn has changed hands several times in recent years. We talked with Matt, the son of the owners and with Betty who prepared breakfast along with Matthew and who also did housekeeping duties. Both couldn't have been friendlier or more accommodating. . We felt very much at home in our small room, the Carriage Room in the back of the first floor. There is a pleasant side deck/porch near this room with tables and umbrellas where you can sit, enjoy a cold drink and chat with other guests. The room is done in greens and lavendar and although it's soft and pretty, it isn't overly flowery or heavily Victorian. We liked parking in the driveway and walking through town and just leaving the car. When I think of the B and Bs we've liked the most in St. Augustine, the ones that stand out have very hospitable hosts. This one didn't disappoint. Penny Farthing, you are my new favorite in Saint Augustine.

My husband & I stayed at the Penny Farthing on July 13th 2012 to celebrate our 17th anniversary. It was wondeful from begining to end. Dave & Matthew did a great job (along with Betty). Would have loved to meet Marie but she was in the U.K. awaiting the birth of their grandchild!
Beautiful surroundings, delicious food & perfect for walking St. George St. & everywhere else. You really do feel like part of the family - Brilliant!!
