“We expected more...”
Reviewed January 17, 2010

My husband and I wanted a weekend getaway. We love everything about St. Augustine. We stayed at the Casa de la Paz for our honeymoon and were let down in a BIG way so we wanted to try something new. We found great reviews about the Agustin Inn and LOVED the location. The room was smaller than we'd have liked and the description of the room on the Inn's website was not what we found to be true once we arrived. The website also said that our room had a veiw of the fort and the bay when really all we could see was a parking lot and trees. We were able to check in quite a bit early, so that was nice. The porch off our room only had seating for one. The ice maker was very loud and was being used through the night. Also, we were able to hear the people across from us and could tell what they were doing. The breakfast was average, at best. We will not be staying at this Inn again.

My husband and I stayed here for New Years. The Agustin is in an ideal location near St. George St., great restaurants, and entertainment. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was great and the food was delicious. We will definitely be staying here again in the future.

My boyfriend and I went to this Bed&Breakfast for New Year. We enjoy our stay here , the room is cozy (specially the jacuzzi), It's been a long time I don't have so delicious breakfast in bed, all the food is home made. The stuff is amazing and very kind. The location of this beautiful house (downtown) is perfect and close to all the good attractions in St. Agustine. We will definitely be back.

We enjoyed our romantic weekend in St. Augustine very much. Most of the rooms (including the one we stayed in) have been recently redecorated, and the furnishings are attractive. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The breakfasts were different each morning, and everything was delicious. We also enjoyed the fresh-baked treats each afternoon. We enjoyed being able to walk to all of the shops and restaurants in the historic district from this convenient location.

The San Agustin is a fine place, as far as B&B's go - it's clean, the staff is very helpful (Erin especially), and are as pleasant as anyone could wish. We stayed in the Camelot, the king-sized bed was exceptional, and the private porch was very nice. The free Wi-Fi was fairly fast and extremely convenient. The room is quaint but a bit small, with limited closet space and not much room for more than a single roll-aboard bag. The décor is nothing ostentatious but it has an enormous whirl-pool tub that we thoroughly enjoyed. The TV is tiny and not a flat-screen; moreover, laying in bed and watching it through the painted wrought-iron footboard is annoying.
The food provided during the morning breakfast was adequate, but not necessarily above par for a B&B, other than it tasted good and filled you up. The room rates here deserve a little better than an average-quality breakfast. The carrot muffins, though, were most awesome.
The Agustin Inn’s strong point is its proximity to St. George St., the center of the St. Augustine shopping and dining experience. It is a three minute walk to the Castillo de San Marcos, a two minute walk to the Spanish Colonial Museum, and literally around the corner from any kind of dining experience you could want. In short, it has location, location, and location.
This also means that you are also in the middle of the congregation of tourism; there is a public parking lot right next door, and loud folks passing by the Inn during the weekend evenings. You are within earshot of live music on St. George St. and in the morning, the rooster(s) that reside with the living history museums will crow with early the sun.
In any case, if you want to get away for a nice, quiet weekend and forget about civilization, this is not your place, but if being in the middle of St. Augustine appeals to you, this IS place for you: its location can't be beat and you can certainly stay in a far less expensive room than the Camelot and still enjoy your stay.

The innkeeper (blonde gal) and breakfast chef (brunette gal) were both very welcoming and helpful during our two days stay. The food was delicious. The location is very good, especially if you want access to the Spanish Museum or the fort. On Sunday, our breakfast was delivered on a tray, which was a lovely touch and worked out well.

Having said that, the property has some rough edges. The front door, for instance, stays locked and a code is required. If you aren't checked in, you don't have the code. Your fellow guests will have to let you in, or you will just have to wait outside on the porch. If the innkeeper is assisting someone with luggage, you will be waiting. My impression is that additional help should be engaged for busy check-in / check-out periods.

While visiting with friends in the lobby, we observed some travel weary people who found a parking space, struggled through the rain, and we then opened the door for them. They did all this in response to a VACANCY sign in front of the inn. Imagine their disappointment to learn "NO vacancy," before they went back into the rain. It was very sad, they had hurt feelings, and several other persons in the lobby exchanged dark looks. We offered to change the sign for the innkeeper since she was busy with check ins, but she explained that the sign is always like that ("VACANCY"), it is never changed, even when they are sold out. Hmmmm.... that made me worry about the level of care and service that we could look forward to during out stay.

We were in Greensboro, the handicapped accessible room with large shower, no tub. This is a downstairs room advertised as a "private entrance," but the door to the room is directly on the porch walkway with a large amount of foot traffic going by to access other rooms and the elevator. The two windows of this room directly adjoin that porch walkway. There are blinds but no curtains, so there is a gap between the blinds and either side of the windows! When one lies in bed, you can clearly see through the gap -- it is most disconcerting. It is also NOT ROMANTIC. Worse still, when one is using the toilet in the bathroom, the gaps on either side and small spaces within the slats are RIGHT THERE beside you. This does not provide the type of privacy and comfort that one expects in the bathroom of a hotel/inn. When choosing a room, you might not want this one if you are concerned about privacy. It is handy for loading and unloading your belongings, however, and it is roomy. A rollaway bed would be a stretch, though.

Our friends stayed in an upstairs room, which they liked, but they reported that it was so tiny, the room was mainly bed and tub, with only a small walkway between the two. There room was much less expensive.

We have stayed in four B&Bs/inns in St. Augustine recently. The Greensboro room decor and amenities were average to below average when compared to the other three properties, while the $199 room rate was at the high end of the range. The lack of privacy at the windows for Greensboro was completely unacceptable. The perpetual "vacancy" sign on an inn, even when sold out, is also insensitive and unacceptable in my opinion.

The parking is about five minutes walk away. It was fairly convenient, and safe. Many B&Bs in St. Augustine have parking located away from the inn, but you can find some with adjacent parking if you check.
