St. Francis Inn Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #8 of 30 St. Augustine B&B and Inns

We chose the St. Francis in after doing an internet search for a B&B in St. Augustine. We were happy to find that it lived up to it's photos and descriptions from their web site. What a relaxing setting, great food (loved the breakfasts, appetizers, and desserts), short walking distance to everything, and our very clean and comfy room! We plan to return again next year!

Staying in the Courtyard Room gives the added benifit of hearing the horses that pull the carriages clop along the brick road. An early morning dip in the pool is an excellent way to start the day...and a great way to prepare for the chef's breakfast treats!

I chose the St. Francis Inn after much research, having never been to the area but having strong recommendations that St. Augustine is wonderful. I could not have been happier, and my children (ages 7 and 11) were delighted also. The room we got was not in the main inn but across the cobblestone street, with parking immediately adjacent (I know now how big and awesome a deal that is - old-town St. Augustine is very cool and very historic, like a European town, with very narrow streets and buildings fronting right on them). The room we got had a beautiful porch overlooking the quiet street and the main inn's courtyard, a smallish but very clean and servicable bathroom, and enough beds to make my family feel pampered. The hosts were completely gracious, with snacks and drinks on hand at all times, special socializing hours, great and delicious breakfast choices, and a genuine interest in my family's needs. We were able to walk to lots of interesting places in Old Town and just drink in the atmosphere of the town (we probably could have walked to the spanish fort but we were on a bit of a time crunch so we drove, oh well), plus (this was a HUGE bonus for us) the ability to use the sister beach cottage was awesome. We also also used the reciprocal pass to go up in the St. Augustine lighthouse -- FUN!
All in all, a wonderful place to stay that helped make for a wonderful trip I think of often, and fondly. I recommend this Inn highly because, while you might think you're paying more, you're definitely getting what you pay for -- a special, comfortable place that turns out to be a great deal!

Only con (totally out of the Inn's control): my family was awakened by several passes of a VERY LOUD, fully-sirening streetsweeper at 3 or 4am, just immediately outside our windows. I don't know how often they sweep the streets, but it was definitely a surprise. Fortunately, we were all able to get back to sleep pretty easily.

OK, so it's supposed to be a "private" place for 2, and you're supposed to be CLOSE to their INN downtown to get your breakfast and dinners and dessert/coffees. Well, if you call getting out of the BEACHSIDE area" going over the "bridge" then down a few streets and park and then be told you sit outside with all the biting flies and ants a "pleasure"? No Thanks! They told us that the "beach cottage" is a "charming place" well again, what THEIR charming is and MY charming is? BIG DIFFERENCE! Yes it's ON THE STREET to the beach, but it's at least 5 or 6 houses away, then you have a large expanse of beach to get to the water, very close, no doubt, but not ON THE BEACH as they say, You couldn't hear any water, just the window air unit and some noisy "neighbors" from their other UNIT next door and the "patio set and chairs?" consisted of one plastic chair for us, that was it. If you are claustrophobic?? Well don't stay there either. Now we picked that place because the St. Francis Inn is said to be a historic Inn and very bed and breakfast like. NOT IF YOU STAY AT THE BEACH COTTAGE, not near, they tell you can bring your 9lb poodle who again is cleaner than most rooms and carpet in these places, and yet NO place we tried to get food at would allow us to take her even though she was enclosed in her own pet stroller, you couldn't even tell she was in there, THATS how enclosed it is! Even when we DID make it to the Inns GADEN ?? area for a rbeakfast outside with all the biting bugs and flies! So many of these "places" show a very "fluffed up" website, then when you get there and get the "real story", you know you'd never have gone THERE in the first, second or THIRD place! Just one more for your list of NOT to go to. At the Banana Bay Resort????? Oh please! NOT A RESORT! But there IN KEY WEST, NOT TO BE CONFUSED with the BANANA BAY RESORT IN MARATHON....we "FLUSHED away over $800 and at the St. Francis Inns so-called "beach cottage"? We "flushed away!" another $600. The "actual Inn might be a nice place? Not sure, but their so-called beach cottage for 2? Forget it! I'd rather have stayed home BOTH times! AND SAVED OUR MONEY FOR A NICE PLACE!

We spent a week here....OMG what a fantastic place. We had no idea where to stay and kind of stumbled upon this Inn while searching the internet. Of course we had hoped for the best and much to our amazement... it was the BEST! Great breakfast every morning...wonderful happy hour every night and yummy desserts from 7:30 to 9:00. The staff were absolutely amazing! The Inn is the oldest is St. Augustine and I'm sure the cleanest!! If your coming to St. Augustine, for business, pleasure, whatever this is the place to stay! We definitley will be back!

From the time that we arrived until we left we were well attended. The staff is very knowledgable about the area. The extra amenities ie. water bottles, bikes, 24 hr coffee & tea, dessert social and happy hour social were fun. Other guests felt relaxed and shared stories with us. Food was delicious. We will return!

My husband and I stayed at the St. Francis Inn for the second time this past June. If possible our stay this time was even better than the first time. The staff just couldn't do enough to make our stay everything we wanted. They answered all questions we had about restaurants and ghost tours. Their recommendations were absolutely correct. Chef Gary's breakfasts were delicious and the expanded menu was a nice surprise. We had paid for the breakfast to be brought to our room and both mornings, right on time, they were delivered. Our room was clean and well prepared each day. I would highly recommend the St. Francis Inn to any one traveling to St. Augustine. We've already rebooked for November. Can't wait!!
