Eccentric, entertaining, well organized. Just a fun place with an enormous number of odd and beautiful things to look at and to appreciate. Great building. very good gift shop.

“Wonderful Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2013

This is a wonderful museum with a very eclectic collection. Some displays were more typical of a science museum: 1.) some very early typewriters 2.) static electricity generator, 3.) Sir Winston Churchill's stuffed lion 3.) Native American artifacts. All had good descriptions. There were also several Tiffany windows and an amazing collection of buttons and mechanical musical instruments. The building has an interesting history and a beautiful courtyard. I love museums more than my husband but he was thoroughly entertained by the diverse collection. We visited St. Augustine several times before making it to the museum - wish we had visited it sooner.

Lots of great photography and history of this historic Casino. Well worth the visit. Nice little gift shop too for out of the ordinary souveniers.

“I could have stayed all day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

As antique lovers we found the Lightner Mueseum fascinating. It features 19th century decorative art and collections from the period. It' like a mini Smithsonian. Amazing furniture (love the egyptian revival-It's a hoot), paintings, sculpture, china, pottery, crystal, mineral collection, a meteorite, oddities (shrunken head), elegant mechanical machines, music boxes huge and small. Fascinating (really) collections of coins, buttons, lace, embroidery, samplers and tons more. The cafe, located in the buildings former indoor pool, served very tasty food at reasonable price. I have never had a bad meal at a museum yet. A wonderful visit with very knowledgeable docents. Well worth the $10 admission.

“interesting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

The display of cut glass was amazing. The whole building was beautifully laid out and interesting. I also enjoyed that they played lovely classical music which was in keeping with the surroundings and not loud inappropriate music.
