The reason that I picked the red train tour over other tours in St Augustine #1 the extremely high reviews that the red train have on TripAdvisor. #2 This was my third trip to St Augustine and everytime im going, friends and family outside of TripAdvisor and always told me that I need to take the red train tour.
I showed up on Thursday morning right at opening, at the red trolley visitor center and Depot. (There's free parking as long as space is available) the lady that greeted me at the sales desk on Thursday September 26th was very friendly and inform in it. She was all personality. She gave me the full sales pitch that she is required to give, however after I declined her cells offer she was not pushy. she simply explained that she wanted me to have all the information and anytime tearing that day I could stop back by and see her and she could update my ticket after I thought things over. (That was great looking out trying to save me a couple dollars on the other ticket items)
As previously stated I was the first one there at opening so I got to get on the first training of the morning. My first train driver / tour guide was a gentleman named Bob. Bob first suggestion was that I ride the tour all the way through to get a good lay of the land, this was wonderful advice. And as luck would have it and it being early in the morning for the entire 22 stops it was just myself and Bob. So I received a personal VIP tour St Augustine. Bob didn't need to give me such a personalized tour, since it was just him in myself every time we would pull into a scheduled trolley stop, Bob would engage me in conversation or tell me a story about the many years that he lived in the town. Later on in the day since I rode the hop-on hop-off tour, I would occasionally run into Bob, he always welcome to me by my first name which he remembered from this morning. Even saying goodbye and wishing me a good day whenever I got off at a stop.
The other driver / tour guide that stood out other than Bob was a young lady named Daphne. Daphne was full of energy, love puns, and was quite good with tongue twisters especially involving the quoted "believe it or not". Twice Daphne made me laugh out loud. Once was when she worked in admiral ackbar's quote from Star wars into the tour (as a Star wars nerd I was extremely impressed) the second was when she spotted two adorable husky puppies and a young couple that was feeding the puppies ice cream. I'm a cat person myself, but still seeing two young husky puppies enjoying ice cream on a hot day will make anybody giggle. Daphne also told us that she does the ghost tours and only once in a blue moon she sprinkle in a little bit of ghostly information as we would pass certain places.
In conclusion I would 100% do the red train tours hop-on hop-off again. And if you're reading this my TripAdvisor family I think it would be a good idea for when you're planning your trip to call ahead and see if Bob or Daphne are working that day. For they are both shining stars.
