We ate at Tapping the Vine for the first time tonight. The wine was a wonderful suggestion from our knowledgable waiter after we told him we prefer wines from Oregon. We shared the bruschetta trio and cheese and fruit appetizers. We have two groups of guests coming into town this month, and we will be taking them to Tapping the Vine.

My husband and I were going to eat at the Whistle Stop but I wanted to stop and get a nice glass of wine beforehand. We ended up at Tapping the Vine. After looking at their menu, we decided to eat there instead. They have a nice selection of small plates as well as larger entrees. They have an excellet wine and beer selection. Very enjoyable place with friendly service.

We were looking for something to eat, something nice when we stumbled upon Tapping the Vine! My husband was going to a concert at Ruth Eckard Hall ( our friend and I didn't want to go) and needed to eat. Looking for another restaurant caused us to come into Safety Harbor, it was raining and Tappping the Vine looked very inviting, we went in and were warmly greeted:).
It is very charming and we all sat down to a wonderful meal.
Chardonnay Chicken for hubby came out with lovely smells and he says delicious! Our beef tenderloins in Madeira sauce was just what had been thinking of all day, perfect portion, perfectly medium rare:). We chatted with our server Laura who is a partner and was just great in explaining our chosen wine (Heavyweight Merlot) and a Pear Cider - clean and crisp.
My friend and I had planned to go to a movie after we dropped the concert goer but instead went back for fabulous deserts - we tried 2 of the 3 offered, very yummy, I wanted to lick the plate!
We chatted with other patrons, talked to Howard and found out he had lived in our home town. We chatted with Laura's mother who was there visiting and met the chef who is a charming young woman We didn't miss seeing a movie at all. We felt we were visiting friends and sharing their hospitality! To top it off it was all at a reasonable price point. We certainly wish them well:)
If you are looking for some different food, wonderful wine and beer choices,
in a charming setting I would recommend Tapping the Vine for sure.

My wife and i made an unplanned stop at Tapping the Vine last night. Very cozy. Impressive wine and beer list. Engaging and knowledgeable waiter (thanks Lee). And, terrific tapas. Will be back soon!

Have tried this place now three times as the first two times weren't great but was willing to try it again. The service each time is slow and ponderous. Have to wait forever to get the tab has been the norm and the food so-so. This last time the food was horrific. After seeing three tables get their food before us I chalked it up to the previous two times. But the food this last time was really bad. The buffalo shrimp was cold and the potato dish also cold as a trout pulled out of a northern Canada River. I tried really hard to eat it but it was bad. By far the worst meal in 10 years. Won't go back and will make sure everyone of my friends in the area and work for the city will know about it. Never once did the waiter explain the slow service and the substandard food. They should not be open for a 3 rd Friday event as they can't handle any volume of patrons and the food really bad. The asparagus soup was for sure right from a Campbell's Soup.

Dear Tim, thank you for visiting our restaurant. We are confused by your comments on TripAdvisor, since they contradict what you told us in person that evening. It is true you did not enjoy our “potato dish” (gnocchi), but you and both your guests complimented us on the custom ordered shrimp and soup, even cleaned the plate and bowl. From the time you got your last food item to receiving your tab was about 15 minutes. You left a reasonable tip and seemed to enjoy the time you spent with us. We treat all our guests with respect and integrity and are wondering why you wrote this.
