“Claustrophobic Property - odd for Marriott”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

By no means are we Marriott rookies ( we are timeshare owners). Have stayed at both of the other Marriott properties on Singer Island (plus many more of their properties) and after a week's visit here at Oceana Palms, let's just say this locale disappointed, on several levels.

If you are accustomed to a property where you can wander/spread out/meander and get away from it all, this is not it. One bank of elevators, small claustrophobic lobby and dark walkways out to the pool area. Dank feeling, really. A very compact setting, we were there in the deadest season and the pool chairs were often all taken. Awkwardly placed, the sunny section (there was shade from the bldg. most of the day) even had chairs crammed in facing each other. Weird to look up at someone else when sitting at the pool and hard to maneuver. There just isn't enough room for everyone, as though Marriott didn't think this through when they built. I cannot imagine what it will be like when the second building is built. Where will they put everybody??

And the pool lounges themselves? Obviously nobody ever sat in them for more than a minute when choosing them; they had a bar across our backs at a terrible position and we ALL moaned all week about how uncomfy they were. That being said, this property provides FREE (key word FREE) banded/slatted chairs on the beach which was the best part of the vacation! We hate being charged $35 a day for 2 chairs and often go to the local beach stores to pick up cheap ones for the week's visit). Didn't have to do this at Oceana Palms tho there is a chair/umbrella service for those that want it. Beach towels were plentiful but at the end of each day you have to take the wet dirty ones up to your room with you and then call down for replacements. There is no kiosk where you can leave them and exchange. Odd.

No complaints about the oceanfront area -- wide and inviting. You can walk a ways up to the public beach area where there are some rocks to snorkel around. We do like Ocean Pointe better for this activity, especially down by the Kingfish bldg where the channel is sliced out. Our beach week had junk from Tropical Storm Isaac on the shore and the water was brown from the storm for the first half of the trip, but this is not Marriott's fault!).

There is one big pool split by a walkway, two hot tubs, shuffleboard, a kiddy swim area. If I had brought along any really active young ones, it would have been awful. NO room to run...this is not a place to stay for active kids (unless they are tiny and hand-held!).

We enjoyed having the Reflections bar/restaurant on property and the specials/happy hours and bartenders were terrific. Glad we were there in the slow season as again, it is a tiny area with just a handful of tables so it must be a zoo during "The Season." Also enjoyed the music (particularly the band "PINK SLIP") and participated in several activities at the pool - the staff was fun and helpful. Won a few free drinks and a movie to watch in the room. Yay!

Now for the noise. UGH. The construction going on keep us from enjoying a single meal out on our balcony without shouting at each other (we were on the 11th floor facing north). The rumble would not have been so bad, but the beeping from trucks backing up literally began at 8:15 on the nose and did not stop until after 5 -- they even worked on Labor Day. Do any of the construction trucks EVER go forward??? All we heard was the beeping and could not sleep in past 8:15 every morning except Sunday. REALLY ANNOYING. Buyer (traveler) beware! If you are at all noise-sensitive, don't stay here til the construction is done.

As I said, we have stayed at many Marriott 2-BR's before and I would rate this one as the least comfy. Sitting area in LR tiny with a couch and two very stiff side chairs. (see my photos). Had issues with the hot water all week long -- had them come and check it and were told it was fine (?!) Had to turn the gigantor shower on 5 full minutes before we would feel any hottish water. About that shower...unless you have a family of 6 that all showers together, this is a huge waste of space and even made me feel very "exposed" in the bathroom. Absolutely no privacy. The toilet was in a separate room and the door closed behind itself each time which also got annoying. (I know, I know, we are picky). The smaller bath was a dark hole. The lights in both baths (new bulbs that take 5 minutes to totally lite up) were inadequate and all primping/make-up'ing was challenging. Really weird. The second bedroom was also very tight with nowhere to store large suitcases and a tiny closet. Two Q beds were barely a foot apart. Was glad we didn't have more bodies with us as it would have been a logistical nightmare to put more of us in that setting. Ostensibly a suite for up to 8 people, we would have been tripping over each other. Master was large and included a desk, tv, dresser. Floor to ceiling window provided stunning view.

Kitchen was very nice (hot water an issue again). We like to cook and enjoy the new Publix over the bridge for easy supply purchases. Used the grill on property, too. Staff kept everything clean and operational.

The "underground" free parking here takes up the first few levels of the hotel. Nice to get into cool cars in that heat! Unlike the Resort property up the street which is valet parking only (cha-ching), this was definitely a good set-up. Security even called our room once as we had left a lite on in the car. Very thankful for their help!!!!

For those into evenings out, this Singer Island area is still pretty dull. Hotel encourages a drive to Palm Beach Gardens which is like going to any mall-area back in any of our hometowns. Make sure to go to Sailfish Marina on Thursday nites for the music/craft show ( you have to pay to park there but it's too far to walk). Longboat Johnny's has been reincarnated since we began going to the area and is a lot of fun now. Food was good, too.

Bottom line... glad our kids are grown as this small property would not have worked for little ones. The other property, Ocean Pointe, has a buncha pools to choose from and putt putt, a Pizza Hut, ice cream, pool table, etc. Glad we got to swap for Oceana Palms as we were curious, but I am pretty sure we won't chose it again. Would have liked being able to wander, use hammocks, sleep in a cabana by the pool, etc., as we have at other Marriotts. This one lacks many of those Marriott property perks.

Room Tip: Find out where the construction is going on (which side) and ask for the other. Sound travels up so...

We always stay at Marriott's when we travel and this was our favorite. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious. The showers were great. They even had HD T.V. Bernard at the front desk was extremely nice and professional. We had a corner Villa which was spectacular. I loved how you needed to use your key card to use the elevators. It made you feel very safe. I also liked the parking in the parking garage. It was very convenient and they even had a grocery cart to use, plus 2 luggage carts on each floor. The only negative was the service at The Marketplace, there was a young lady there that was quite unfriendly and acted like she was doing you a favor. She was not helpful at all with a very bad attitude. First time I have encountered that type of person in the Marriott chain. I was quite surprised. I would go back and looking forward to it in a few months.

My family is VERY particular about where we stay . Even though this resort is currently under construction , we loved it. The staff is overly accommodating, the resort is clean and the rooms are like small apartments. I cannot say one thing bad about our stay at this awesome resort.

The apartment was well appointed with a complete kitchen and two lovely bedrooms. We were joined by two teen grandchildren and there parents :). It was a wonderful 2 days.
The service was excellent. Everything was clean. There were plenty of towels etc.
It was very upscale and a lot of fun for all three generations.

Room Tip: We had an ocean view.

We have a 'week' here, and it is a great place for everyone.
Very nice upscale rooms, excellent service by all staff, and right on the beach make this a super place to visit. And their showers are awesome too!

Marriott's Oceana Palms is one of the nicest Marriott resorts we've seen. It's a great place to bring a family for a nice beach vacation. The resort participates in the Marriott Vacations program but also provides 2BD villas for non-Vacations owners.

The resort consists of two 19 floor towers with the second tower slated for completion in Feb 2013. You'll be put off by the amount of construction on the property if you arrive before that time. There's a tower closer to the tower and the new tower (Sunset Tower) is closer to the bay. The Ocean tower has a really nice pool setup with a nearby bar that serves drinks and light meals from the adjacent shop/restaurant. The pool area has an exotic Caribbean feel and you don't have the feeling that you're in a normal Continental US Marriott property. You can rest in cabanas and benches that are shaded or out in the sunny area. The beach can be accessed through the pool area and there's a nearby location where you can rent snorkel equipment or a 14' or 16' Hobie Cat.

The villas are very tastefully decorated and the 2nd BD can come with a two bed setup which is great for families. Since the Tower is so new, the furnishings and decorations are extremely modern and attractive. We felt it was one of the nicest rooms we had stayed in any Marriott property.

In typical Southern FL fashion, there is not a lot of acreage associated with the resort. The Palms are one in a long line of a set of high rises that string along the coast. However, the resort is laid out so well that you will never feel claustrophobic. The Ocean Tower has a kids room where young children can stay for a while while adults can take a break. As with any Marriott property, service is impeccable and always with a smile.

This is a lot less formal of a resort than the Marriott Singer Island resort which is just nearby. However, it's very relaxing and accessible and somewhat smaller than the Singer Island resort so you will not be competing for chairs and lounges by the pool. This may change when the Oceana Palms Sunset Tower opens next year but there will likely still be plenty of room.

You'll only be 15 mins from downtown West Palm Beach and the CityPlace and Clemetis Street areas and 10 mins from the Gardens Mall and the associated restaurants in that area. Riveria Beach, the town where the resort is located, has a Publix nearby the resort but there are few dining options in the immediate area.

Marriott's Oceana Palms Resort is a superb option for families or couples who want a quieter more relaxing environment to enjoy the Treasure Coast vacation areas.

Room Tip: The Ocean Tower has villas with ocean views. Make sure you arrange in advance which tower you wish...

We absolutely love Singer Island and are huge fans of Marriott. We spent our first of two weeks in July at Oceana Palms. Villas are incredible - with lots of room, spacious balconies, and a view that is incomparable. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. A great way to spend a "laid back" week.
