Our guide gave us all the facts about farming salmon. We were out on the Hardanger fjord, walking onto a floating building. Big vats each held 50,000 salmon waiting to be large enough to be sent to market. Interesting facts. Good for about a 1/2 hour.

Beside having an one hour canoe exercise, we decided to visit the Harvanger Akvasenter salmon farm close by - it was very interesting and informative and it is highly recommendable for families as revealing for everybody ...

An attractive attraction in an arm of Hardanger fjord. It was interesting to see and to hear the "ranger" describe salmon farming. The area around it is a huge photo-op of quaint village and glorious fjord.

As a consumer of a lot of fish, especially salmon, it was very interesting to visit this fish farm and learn about how farm fishing is done. You will need to put on a life jacket to "walk the planks" out onto the water. It is a visit you will long remember. I think teenagers might like it as well, but I would not take small children. I went as part of a small group trip, so I don't know if there was a fee for this visit.

We (2) visited the Hardanger Akvasenter in last May (2015). It is indeed a must-know visit, and a very very pleasant one. The road there is magnificent, and the views exceptional. The farm is located in the fjord water, and it is indeed a very lovely sight by itself. You get there by a short walk (150m. approximately) over a floating bridge over the water. The facts are of real interest, and beside the knowledge that most Salmons are from pools (and not the sea), you may learn everything on how do they make it for the past ~30 years, when aqua agriculture has been developed in Norway (Are these better than those from the sea?). Simen, our very knowledgeable guide was very attentive, so kind and you might easily see how much he is committed and proud with what they are doing there. Very Interesting, very much enjoyable and lovely experience, everyone in the Hardngerfjorden should have. Plan ahead and allow enough time for the visit (2-3hr.).

Thank you so much for your feedback Tamir! It was nice to meet you and Im happy you enjoyed your visit.
PS: Most salmon that you buy in or from Norway is raised in seabased fishfarms like Hardanger Akvasenter.
