This is the 5th or 6th time we have been to The Whip ... Still GREAT food and the atmosphere cant be beat in the area. We sat out on the patio by the lake, as usual, and the view and sunset was magnificent.
They do not have a liquor license so it's beer and wine only & they ran out of the wine I was drinking - I tried an alternative it it was fine.
The restaurant has a tin roof and they spray water on it to keep it cool in the summer and it also provides a nice sound year round.
The ceiling, ceiling fans and outdoor lights could use a good cleaning - I'm sure it is hard to keep bugs away at this location but a little more effort would be appreciated - I would rate the outdoor seating much higher if the ceiling was cleaned.

If you are looking for very good food, friendly servers, and a beautiful, relaxing lakeside setting, give The Whip a try. It is off the beaten path, hidden in a somewhat rundown fisherman's lodge area. When you arrive, you will wonder if you are in the right place. The main path into the restaurant involves walking through a rather unsightly bait shop. Find your way onto the outside patio for a wonderful view of Lake Talquin, which feels like Florida the way Florida used to be in the 1960s. The tin roof of the patio is kept cool by a system that pumps water from the lake up onto the roof and then falls back down into the lake. It sounds and looks like rainfall ... a wonderful effect on a hot, sunny day.

I ate at the Whip on a Tuesday night, which was very slow, so the waitress had plenty of time for a friendly chat. They have a surprisingly long list of American craft beers on the menu, as well as the standards. Menu items range from things such as fried fish and burgers to more complete dinners and specials. I had a broiled grouper dinner, which was surprisingly good, although a bit more bland than I expected, since it was named "diablo," which is generally more spicy. The food and accompanying vegetables were cooked just right. My meal was very good... just a hair short of "excellent" or "gourmet" standards. But it was far better than I ever expected to get in the middle of an area full of rundown fishing rentals on a back road in the Florida panhandle.

This is one of the best places to relax and let your hair down. Good food, very nice atmosphere, and a beautiful scenic view of the lake . Dine in or out over the water.

This is a great little place to eat if you find yourself in the rural area of quincy Florida or if you want something different outside of Tallahassee. The steaks are really great and the lake view is beautiful. The cool water they run off the tin roof keeps things cool so you can sit outside even on hot evenings. It is also a nice quiet place for conversation.
