“Relaxing stay, friendly staff”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

My husband and I stayed here recently to attend an expo at the convention center. We really loved our balcony overlooking the harbor and the harbor walk -- that was so nice and pretty to view as well as to walk along it. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was okay and you could find enough to eat even if the eggs were just so-so. I loved being able to walk to the convention center and to restaurants and shopping even if when we first walked to find food, it seemed like a such a long walk (although it really wasn't). We didn't use our car the whole time we stayed there. I loved the habor walk with the parks, very pretty. The only bad spot was on our second day, our room had not been cleaned or towels restocked by the time we returned that afternoon. After speaking to several of the cleaning staff, no one seemed to know who was supposed to take care of our room. We told the main desk person who took care of it and our room was fine when we returned from our late lunch. I would definitely like to return here again.

Room Tip: The rooms with a balcony overlooking the harbor have such great views.

Decent hotel for the price. I thought the staff were very friendly but seemed overwhelmed and having issues with online booking as guests arrived. Anyway, the room was clean and nice. Best part was the waterfront area and you can walk under Hwy 41 bridge to go to Laishley's crab house which was wonderful.
Would def stay again.

My husband and I decided to spend Christmas week in Florida and - as it was our first time there - wanted to find a hotel that was centrally located. We flew into Tampa International and knew we wanted to visit the Everglades so Punta Gorda was about the half way mark.
The Waterfront hotel is located right off U.S. 41 and is easy to get to. It is located right on the harbor and we paid the few extra dollars to have a water facing room with a balcony.I inquired about the balcony when we checked in and the friendly clerk - realizing that we wanted a good view - told me she would give us a second floor room as the first floor view would be somewhat blocked by the railing of the harborwalk.
We were given one of the newly renovated rooms and it was very nice. We had requested a king sized bed rather than two queens, there was a work station complete with jacks/outlets for electronic devices and a high-backed swivel chair, small refridgerator and microwave, and reading lights built into the headboard on both sides. The furnishings had a retro feel with glass topped furniture and the bathroom had a square sink with a waterfall faucet.
The hotel is in the process of being renovated and we could see the areas that hadn't been finished yet but the areas that are finished are very nice.
The location is great - drive over the bridge, go about seven miles into Port Charlotte, and you can find any number of restaurants.
I can recommend this hotel but I would definitely be sure to request a newly renovated room.

Room Tip: A west facing room with a view of the water on the second floor - you get a balcony and a nice view...

After a long drive from south from Boca Grande, searching for a nice place to stay at regular-person prices, we lucked out on finding the PG Waterfront Hotel as soon as we left the Hiway #41 bridge entering Punta Gorda. It was an older hotel, but we got a newly renovated room with a water view and a balcony. We checked in for one night, but as soon as we saw our refurbished room (granite vanities), with microwave, small frig, and really comfortable new mattress, we booked for a second night. They have a pool, plus are right next to city park with a walkway right at the water's edge. From our room we could see a gazebo, small sandy beach, and shuffleboard courts. The block the hotel is on is the beginning of the historic residential section with Victorian homes restored and "put up" after 2004 Hurricane Charley. The hotel is close enough to downtown to walk to the shops and restaurants, but if you want to drive there is plenty of parking in free city garage. One caveat: the refurbishment of all rooms is not complete. Ours was so new they hadn't put outdoor chairs on our balcony, but as soon as we brought it to their attention, maintenance brought some to our room for us. We would definitely stay here again if we could get a newly refurbished room again with water view and balcony.

Room Tip: Insist on refurbished room.

The rooms are very nice. Thats about all. Leak in wall on to floor. Called front desk at 830 pm no answer. Woke up to s 4x4 soaked.Called front desk stated leak, no apologies offered room second floor. Put key in door room already occupied! Are u F kidding me!! Again no apologies, no explanation nothing. For a newly remodeled Hotel you need to replace the useless front desk clerk or at least a training class in customer relations.

Thank you for your review and we couldn't agree with you more. Not one desk clerk from that period of time is still with us. You should come check out the finished renovations and our new staff!

Hard to imagine a hotel full of employees that could care less about your comfort, and happiness! From the brain dead clerks behind the front desk, to the illegal immigrant housekeepers, to the 3rd manager in 5 weeks, this hotel breaks all the rules!! Their "free" breakfast is so disgusting, even my dog wouldn't eat their eggs and waffles, and he eats cat poop! The 3 managers they went through in the 6 weeks we stayed there were quite possibly the most uneducated people in Florida. We prepaid the 6 weeks before arriving and couldn't get a refund. We wanted out after 2 days and were stuck there. Better off sleeping in our car. You've been warned! Stay here after reading this and you deserve everything they will do to you!!

One can not just depend on their location for a good rating. We had 5 couples staying here for two nights, the beginning of December. We were paying 3 different rates. Two couples got a slight adjustment, but that was because our two rooms had numerous live ants. One room did receive the option of spray or an ant trap. The included breakfast consisted of a shortage of coffee, cold hard boiled eggs, bacon, and pastries, along with make your own waffles, the first day. The second day, no waffle machine. The attendants just kept saying sorry, as if their hands were tied. Rarely have I had an experience like this.

Room Tip: We were in their all ready renovated rooms facing the water, paying a premium rate.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry we did not meet your expectations. As for the ant problem, we have contracted with Orkin and subsequently have eliminated our ant problem. We hope the next time you come to Punta Gorda, you give us another chance!
