PG Waterfront Hotel & Suites
Ranked #4 of 7 Hotels in Punta Gorda

This hotel is such a great deal and an excellent location! The staff is wonderful (front desk, maid service, breakfast personnel, management - everyone). The free breakfast is good, particularly on Friday and the weekend when they have a larger selection. The older part of the hotel is being rennovated. Our room was spacious and the bathroom clean. The carpet could use a good cleaning though. The pool is very clean but watch out for the fire ants by the water side (I was stung this trip and my last one by one that climbed up on the chair).

We did not go to the restaurant as it seems to get pretty poor reviews, hopefully that will change because the location is excellent.

A nice park and Fishermen's Village is within walking distance. The hotel will become a Holiday Inn in September/October and the room prices will be going up :-(. I will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: I love the water and park combo view.

Found a very reasonable price on the room for Pirate Fest weekend. 1/2 the hotel is being renovated. But the open 1/2 that has also been renovated exceeded the reviews I read. The double bed room was larger than most other hotels that left plenty of room to stretch out. complementary breakfast was typical of most. The pool is located on the side being renovated but the pool has been redone with a nice deck and a good size pool. Close to downtown, 7 blocks from Fishermen's Village. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Next to park bring a bicycle.

The sunset views are spectacular and the opportunity to get some exercise while traveling (walking the bridge) were big points in their favor. Breakfast was very good, too. We had grandchildren with us and they liked it as well. They even had a "Happy Hour" the first night we were there. Wine was available for guests, in the lobby. I think management is trying to put its best foot forward and trying to please the guests. However, we were very disappointed when we arrived at our room. This place has definitely deteriorated since we had stayed in the past. It needs a major facelift, inside and out. The rooms are in serious need of deep cleaning, new carpets, and general updating. Bedding is poor. Loose latches on doors did not give us a sense of security. It is showing its age.

We made a reservation for a week in June at the Best Western Waterfront Hotel in beautiful
Ponta Gorda Florida. Surprise! Surprise! The hotel did not match the city in beauty. In fact,
it was one of the worst facilities we ever stepped foot in. The first thing that hit us when
walking in the door was the rank musty smell. Also catching our eye was the rundown condition
of the hotel both inside and outside. My lady friend and I were very tired from a two day
drive from New Jersey....so we checked in to go to our room. Another shock. The room was
was even worse than the lobby....old and musty. We wanted to watch the the NBA playoffs
except theTV had to be 15-20 years old (Zenith). We turned to TNT channel where the
game was televised.....no picture. It read, "must have box to view this channel". We than went
to the front desk. The desk person responded by saying that nothing could be done about
anything until next week when they supposed to begin renovating. I said that won't help me
now.....that I no way could stay there. We cancelled and found another hotel that cost
a little more but provided everything we wanted. A hotel that we were both extremely happy
to be there. The worst of the worst to one of the best. The Best Western Waterfront Hotel
is to be avoided at all cost.

Room Tip: To my knowledge they don't exist.

Stayed May 2012 And it is not a Best Western any more - it is the Punta Gorda Waterfront now.

Pros were breakfast (although sometimes the eggs and sausage were cold) and the location.

Cons are MANY:

There was a musty smell in the entire hotel. Maid service sucked. They did not even clean one day, and the other days were a mixture of no vacuuming, not replacing washcloths or toiletries, not cleaning the coffee pot or replenishing the coffee. When I called the front desk to tell them the maid had not left us any coffee, someone tied some bags of coffee to the door - regular coffee in the bags, not in a filter, so that was usless.

In addition, the curtain rod was falling off and the security latch for the sliding door was falling off of the wall. If we had been spending a lot of time in the hotel we would have definately checked out and found another one. I would not advise anyone to stay here. It is truly the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Dopn't go here.
