Pros: Listening to live music (slightly out of tune), eating while overlooking the harbour, reasonable prices.

Cons: Pretty much everything else.

We ate dinner here while shopping at Fisherman’s Village (side note… shops closed before 7pm). The prices caught our eye and the menu seemed expansive. We sat outside on their patio (which was under FV roof). The server (an older trim woman who didn’t have a nametag) was fairly quick to get our drink order but that’s about it. The food took a while, and when it did come, out server dropped off the planet somewhere. We had to go inside to request drink refills, and to get our check. When she was at our table, she was short and crabby. Between us we had shrimp and scallops, french onion soup, a house salad and an order of homemade onion rings. The seafood was less than extraordinary, the soup was edible, the salad was just a salad with no extras, and the rings were served cool and had no flavor. The clerk inside seemed crabby too when we payed for our meal, and the whole place looked like it needed a facelift.

I have lived in Punta Gorda for over 16 years and have been visiting since 1979. My first career was cooking. Fisherman's Village Oyster Bar has the best seafood around. Many locals dine in the lounge because there is no waterview once it gets dark. The lobster and crabmeat stuffing is delicious. The fried scallops are the best. If you order wings, get the mixed hot sauce and bluecheese dip, Some of the best prime rib around as well. Even the burgers are fantastic. No one makes a drink like bartender Ron (doesn't work Sundays and Mondays). They also offer smaller portions and early bird specials. Same owner, I believe, since it opened. Very consistent.

Had an excellent fish sandwich at very reasonable price for lunc on July4th. Have eaten there many times and found it just OK even though our friends like it. Prices are moderate. Service is usually OK. Waitresses have been there for 40 yrs so they don't get around fast anymore but they are pleasent.

We were hungry for oysters. I assume that during snow bird season, you can't get near this place in Fisherman's Village but off season, it's just the geriatric locals and a few visitors.
Village Oyster Bar is small and dark inside, although there is outside seating, albeit not on the water - what good is that? We chose indoors, the bartender was friendly, the locals at the bar were hammered and there is nothing more entertaining than hammered geriatric set - kudos to them for their energy - hope they weren't driving!
On to the food - round up the usual and standard fishermen combo platters - fried this and that. Portions coming out of the kitchen were huge! The oysters were very good - ordered 1/2 doz and got 7. On to the main course - scallops - ordered 1/2 doz, got 8. Such a deal.
Although the selections were very standard, I will say that everything was fresh, fresh, fresh. Of special note was the cole slaw. Not your average drowned in mayo. This was shredded with a pleasant vinegar based dressing - it disappeared rapidly. In fact, all the meal disappeared rapidly and really - how can you go wrong with "dinner-theatre". Only thing missing was Bobby Vinton or Wayne Newton. Even the waitress, salty as she was, was in her own right, entertaining. If you are in the mood to be touristy at an overpriced "village", stop in at the Oyster Bar. You will leave satisfied and shaking your head at the antics of the retired.

I like the fact that they serve a well prepared salad and the food is not over flavoured with artificial spices.
