We had visited the Punta Gorda location on two previous occasions. One time when then ran out of Corona beer and both times when the service was sorely lacking by a disinterested service crew.
We hoped for better on our first visit to the new location.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed! It was a weekday night with only six tables filled.
On our arrival we were not immediately seated, although there were staff at the bar and wait staff that walked by looking at us.
Upon finally being seated we again waited an extended time till someone approached us with water. A while later someone else approached with menus and then after a long wait someone else approached to take our order.
The Cuban buttered bread was tasteless and stale and the Cuban sandwich was average and not pressed as much as usually expected. The one positive was the special of pork ribs it was tasty and the meat fell off the bone.
We noticed since they give you water automatically when first seated nobody at the other 6 occupied tables had a beer. So we stuck with the "aqua" as well.
We observed people at another table have to repeatedly request their check to leave and then wait at least 10 minutes before the waitress returned with it. It apparently is the norm as we too had to wait.
In the end, we would return for the food but since the service is consistently slow, uninterested, unorganized, and preoccupied as if they were actually serving IN Cuba we likely will never go back! There are just too many other better places to dine and spend our money.

The Cuban food we've tried here on two occasions is very good. I can certainly recommend the roasted pork, along with white rice, black beans and cassava (yucca). My husband loved his Cuban "especial" sandwich--bread was fresh, the meats, ham and pork, were plentiful. Waitress was pleasant. Only negative, and it's minor, is that the soda I ordered was not delivered after I ordered it--after a reasonable time our food was delivered and I cancelled the beverage as I no longer wanted it. Good value and nice addition to the mostly non-ethnic restaurants in this area.

First and foremost, as others have noted, the Trip Advisor location showing Punta Gorda is incorrect: this restaurant is now located a few miles north in Port Charlotte on the US-41 service drive, on the east side of Tamiami Trail just south of Harbor Blvd. They moved. The restaurant needs a website, as hours are not posted online: they are closed on Sundays and are open the other days at least 9 am to 10:30 pm, later on Saturdays.

We went on a Monday night and the restaurant had few patrons before 7 pm, and we found the service attentive. It is not an elegant place, but a pleasant place with an informal feel. Prices tend to be about $10 for dinner, including daily specials, and a few specialty items go up to $15. With most entrées, there is a choice of two sides (e.g., salad, plantains, beans, rice, etc.) and there is also a variety of sandwiches and appetizers. The adjacent bar area somewhat separate from the dining room.

Although we are not very familiar with Cuban food, we enjoyed out meals and found the servings sizable and properly prepared. If you are in the mood for casual dining and a somewhat more “exotic” menu than the typical local restaurant, Morales is worth a try.

We have gone to Morales at least 12 times when it was located in Punta Gorda and we always enjoyed our meal. We went to Port Charlotte last Friday and the meal was very good as was the service. The issue was the restrooms. The ladies room door would not close, the walls looked like an attempt was made to paint them which was a mess. The cleanliness was terrible. My husband said the men's room was just as bad.

went for dinner at new location after Florida Weekly review. The service was slower than slow. I had the pork and my wife had chicken
Food was cold. pork was dry and stringy, and the chicken was burned to a crisp. When server was asked to discuss this, she advised she would be right back. Apparently, her right back is days from now. I love good Cuban food, but this is so far below edible, that I suggest you find another Cuban restaurant. We will NEVER go back here
