My walking club parked at the Laishley Marina and walked across the bridge over the Peace River. It was around 9am when we finished walking and we wanted some breakfast. Punta Gorda has a cute downtown so we kept walking down 41 also known as Tamiami Trail.

We came across Dean's South of the Border and took our seats outside at a high table. The food coming out to other tables looked delish, smelled great so the 6 of us ordered: veggie omelets, scrambled eggs w/cheese, breakfast burritos and grits.

The food was soooo good and the server (Melinda) was very pleasant even though she confessed she worked until 2am...guess that big ol' bar is hopping at night!

The only downside was the toast. Seriously. Melinda talked up the whole wheat bread used to make the toast so we all had it. Most soggy with butter toast ever, but the crust was crunchy and the bread would have been great dry.

Very reasonable pricing for the amount of food and the coffee was very good.

The walking club will go back again!

We really work hard to keep all of our patrons happy! 41 is loud sometimes and we just want to remind our patrons that we do offer inside seating for the times that you would like a more intimate or possibly a quieter setting, and yes we have a beautiful full bar inside for those of you who like to sit and even eat at the bar. We look forward to seeing you in the near future and again thanks!!!

My husband and I were recently in Punta Gorda visiting some dear friends and they took us to "Deans South of the Border" for dinner, actually we ended up going there 3 of the four days we were there. We had the tacos, steak & chicken fijatas, potato skins and chicken verde soup - everything we had was GREAT! Not only was the food good but the service was as well - they were very efficient and helpful with information regarding our choices. I must say that the chicken verde soup was soooo good that I had it three days in a row, and I have since tried to make it at home - without success. Anyway, our overall experience at this restaurant was very good. Oh, one more thing, the manager was cleaning a table off next to ours - which means to me that she cares about her restaurant and her servers which equals team work. Good job Deans we'll see you on our next trip to PG!

Dean's has a busy bar area and outside seating at high top tables. Inside has booths. Clean but not fancy, Mexican & American food. Their mini lunch plates are really a complete meal and not mini at all. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at reasonable prices. Good service and cold beer. Parking in rear. I have eaten there at least 10 times

We have lived in Punta Gorda for many years and when visiting friends wanted Mexican food we thought of Dean's South of the Border. When we sat down, we received no chips and salsa as in other Mexican restaurants and we were told that they no longer do that but that we could get them as an appetizer. We all ordered our meals and 2 people asked for some sour cream. Imagine our surprise when we got the bill and there were 2 charges of 75 cents for sour cream! Good thing no one had french fries and wanted ketchup, since I have no idea if that would have been extra too. We have never been so embarrassed by the cheapness of a restaurant and will never bring visiting friends there again. Nor will we, as long time locals, ever refer this restaurant to anyone.

We appreciate you taking the time to review us on Trip Advisor. We are sorry that you were dissapointed in our charges. I would like to take the time to explain Deans Philosophy. In the event we were to give chips and fresh salsa away to every table we would have to incorporate that price into every menu item to allow us to do so. Therefore we have made chips and salsa available at a very reasonable price on the menu, which allows us to provide ample portions at a reasonable price. We have been doing this since 2005, and seems to suit most of our patrons.
We do hope you will reconsider and come visit us again!

Sincerely,
Carrie Dillow
