It is hard to explain how great we think this restaurant is. We travel a lot and Punta Gorda is our second home. This is one of our favorite restaurants we have been to across the country. Our oldest daughter (16) states it as her favorite restaurant, her second is the Russian Tea Room! The family like service is fantastic and makes the evening even more memorable. The Veal Piccata and the Pasta Sophia (Escargot) are the best we have had anywhere. The Spumoni cake, Canneloni and Cheesecake will be some of the best you have ate anywhere. You will often find Phil roaming around the restaurant which is really cool, even bought us a glass of wine the first time we visited. This visit John stopped by and visited our table to make sure everything was perfect. Go to Phil's 41 you will not be disappointed, the Mastre family never is!

We stopped by for a meal on a Thursday night around 7pm without a reservation and were seated immediately. The restaurant was busy, but not packed. Our server took our drink orders and quickly delivered. We ordered our meals and the salads arrived within about 5 minutes. The bread was warm and more than enough for 2 people. The dinners came about 10 minutes later. I had the filet which was done to perfection and was served with a baked potato & green beans. My husband had the lamb shank which he said was delicious, but he wished there was more of it. There was no annoying music playing that night. The bill came to $50 which was quite resonable for 2 excellent meals, a very pleasant atmosphere, and no long wait or crowded surroundings. It had been a while since we last dined at Phil's, but due to the very positive experience that night, we will definitely be back.

Don't order the marinara, especially if you are Italian. It's raw and acidy. Order instead the veal or chicken francaise, or the piccata. My husband thinks the veal here is great... the real deal and fork tender. My brother loved the Basa francaise on angel hair. Basa is a fish from the Mekong Delta, Vietnam- farmed, Google it. It's flown in frozen and then thawed. When you live on the Gulf coast of Florida in a waterfront community, it's hard to imagine that any restaurant would serve this when they could just as easily serve fresh grouper or other local fresh white fish. Those who have had it, say it is very tasty and moist. I can't get beyond the Mekong Delta part. The waitress was quick to tell my brother it was "fresh", whatever that means to her, which made us all laugh. There were 3 tables with a total of 8 people in the entire restaurant and we counted 15 wait staff all mingling in the bar area. The service was really poor. When asked what took so long for our meal, the waitress said "sometimes when it is slow, the kitchen gets slower". It was not one of her better nights. Summary: the place is average, nothing special. I am really surprised at some of the other reviews. I made sure that we ate here twice before doing a review, to be fair.

Went to Phil's over thanksgiving while visiting parents. The place is casual and warm feeling. It was nice as they had some holiday decor without being too much. I had a classic veal dish with capers and it was perfect. Others had two fish dishes and a seafood past dish and they all were pleased. Price for dishes will be 16 to 20 and quality is well worth the price. House wines were also good and reasonable price. Service was good. Only small nit from me was that they were playing holiday music. Too early for that. Would definitely go back.
