Awesome hotel. Great customer service. They even brought coffee to my room on a tray.
And it was free, btw....

In searching out a quick getaway from nearby Sarasota we were told about the rebirth of Punta Gorda after hurricane Charley. The Wyvern Hotel was recommended as a must, along with a visit to the nearby Downtown Hookah Lounge for dinner and their belly dancers. Both recommendations were spot on!
The hotel was impeccably detailed . Think of the cleanest place youv'e ever stayed .
We had a tapas lunch up on the rooftop at the well furnished bar/lounge which is adjacent to the pool; with a panoramic view of the waterfront below.
The room was Big City cool just like the rest of the decor.
The bath was flat out awesome. White marble shower and floors with a seperate jetted tub, granite vanity and great lighting.
After a great time (and great dinner) at the Downtown Hookah we returned to the roof of the Wyvern to enjoy the live entertainment and lively crowd.

This is not your grandparents Punta Gorda! 40 years ago, my grandparents came to the area in retirement. That is all that was here then...retirement cinder block tract housing and cheap eateries. Welcome to the NEW, REVIVED Punta Gorda!

Start with the list of included amenities at the hotel:
•Complimentary wireless Internet access..why do the 'big name' hotels charge for this?
• landscaped rooftop pool and bar for gorgeous sunsets and soaking up the Florida sun, there is often a dj or group entertaining guests
•Well-equipped fitness center (small but well equipped)
•Complimentary parking and weekday newspaper
•Concierge services
•Meeting space with catering services and audio visual equipment

Stylishly furnished rooms with loveseat, chair, workspace, minibar area, marble bathroom with both soaking tub and walk in shower include:
•King or double bedded rooms, many wheelchair accessible, with views of the Bay or the downtown area
•Extra-large flat screen LCD TVs with full cable access, video on demand, and specially programmed iPOD® docking station
•Mini-bar stocked
• imported Frette® linens and bathrobes
•Data port connections-although the entire hotel is completely wi-fi...and did I mention, it's complimentary!!!
•In-room safes
•cordless telephones with voicemail
•Computers with high-speed wireless Internet access available upon request (in case you forgot yours!)

The internet pictures are accurate, so don't doubt them. The hotel is less than a year old but is the redesign of a previous building, although we saw no interior evidence of its former use. There are MANY good to excellent restaurants within easy walking distance although the hotel has a highly rated restaurant on the ground floor.

We were so pleased with our one night business trip, we added another night for leisure!

I had stayed at this hotel, from a reccomendation of a fellow hotelier. Everything about The Wyvern was top notch. The room, the food, the service and the rooftop atmosphere blew away any expectation I would have visiting Punta Gorda.
I visited to meet the General Manager, who was obviously dedicated to the new property and knew what being professional meant, his staff had "it" together. Congratulations John and staff!

These are difficult times to be in the hospitality industry, let alone being in Punta Gorda.
This hotel is a jewel! I recommend it, and will be back.

We had to travel to Punta Gorda on business and looking at reviews on both hotels.com and here, I suggested we give the Wyvern a try. An excellent choice. It was convenient to where we were working and the hotel is far above what I would have imagined. Great staff, very friendly and comfortable bed, nice bathroom. Enjoyed breakfast downstairs, but ate out the rest of the time due to schedule. The last night there, we met at the Mexican restaurant just off the back parking lot and had a good meal with live music. Highly reccommend. It was $99/night.
