“Educational and Inspiring”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2014

This place is definitely not a zoo so don’t expect pristine pathways or fancy gift shops. It is a rescue facility that lovingly and humanely cares for mistreated or abandoned wildlife. It is sad that some people’s misguided ideas of what constitutes an acceptable family pet, or other owners abandoning them (some are previous circus animals) have led to the need for sanctuaries such as Octagon, but thank goodness places like this do exist. It is entirely funded by donations and run by volunteers and the costs to care for these animals is enormous. It is quite an education and privilege to see these magnificent animals up close and personal. Very limited facilities and amenities – just a chance to experience and appreciate a variety of amazing animals.

“WOW & Thanks”

I would highly suggest every one to visit this sanctuary to support and learn about wild animals. Well kept and very peaceful environment. Thanks to all of those who work very hard every day to take care of these animals.

“lions, tigers, and bears oh my!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2014

this place is for a great cause to take care of larger game animals that people thought they'd be able to keep as pets and it didn't turn out too well for the animals. The have a lot of animals here that need their help and you can really get up close to see the magnificence and power of these animals. They have quite a few tigers, lions and bears in addition to some other animals. I've never see a hyena as huge as the one they have here. I must say I got a kick out of the hand painted signs showing what happens if you were to put your hand in the cages which were pictures of the animals head with your hand in their mouth and blood dripping off it. I know you shouldn't do that but it's humorous compared to a standard sign stating don't put your hand in the cages or don't touch the animals. you're close enough that it could actually happen. The facility is way out but it's worth the trek as the kids will enjoy seeing the animals.

“A Must See in Punta Gorda!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2014

This is such an amazing animal rescue sanctuary. It is obvious how much love is put into it by it's owner, all of the volunteers and donators. Great job to all and thank you for loving and caring for some of our earth's most wonderful animals!! It is not too big and doesn't take much time to see so bring a lunch and take your time to see these exotic animals up close!
