Description: FAILTE! [WELCOME!] The Celtic Ray Public House in downtown Punta Gorda opened in 1997 by Proprietor Kevin Doyle. At the time there wasn’t a single establishment in the area that offered a variety of quality imported beers and the atmosphere of a traditional Irish Pub. We serve only high-quality imported draught beers, bottled beers, ciders, fine wines, as well as, a selection of “soft” beverages. We also have expanded with the ‘other side’ and now have a full liquor bar! Our menu features traditional Irish Pub favorites made from fresh ingredients and family recipes. The Celtic Ray’s Fish & Chips are famous worldwide! See you at the Ray, Slainte!

Wife and I visited in the evening and sat at the bar. Very attentive service. We has fish and chips and the Irish sausage. Both excellent. A great assortment of Irish beers. Very authentic soda bread available.
No music the night we were there but we will go back for that. Well worth the visit

The Celtic Ray has great bands, the building is awesome I love the tables outside. many different places to hang at this bar. Historical and nice to see it made it through hurricane in 2004.

Great bar and grill. Friends took us here for beers and supper and it was terrific. Two of us had the lamb shank dinner and it cannot be beat. Meat falling off the shank, mashed potatoes and gravy made with Newcastle Ale. Coleslaw was awesome. Our other two meals were the fish and chips. Wonderful large fillets of tender breaded cod and chips. All four of these meals were exceptional. Great bar scene, great decor. Staff were really nice and attentive. You order at the bar. I was able to buy a Smithwick glass for $5 which seemed pretty reasonable to me. One note of caution. There are several tables (where we sat) that are up on a raised platform approx six or eight inches above the rest of the floor. Where you go up, the edge is marked with colored red lights, but with the other three ahead, one of us didn't see the step and tripped on it. Just something to be aware of. Wished we lived in Punta Gorda and could visit this bar more often.

We've vacationed in Ireland for 20 years and this place is the closest to a true Irish pub that we've experienced in the US. True there is no table service other than delivery of your food, but that's how it is in most Irish pubs. You may find table service at large, touristy places in Ireland and on Sundays or special occasions but for the most part, especially in rural Ireland, you walk in, find a seat and then talk to the barkeep (who is likely also the owner or a close family member) to order your drinks and food. The experience is more about socializing than eating. In fact many Irish pubs don't serve food at all, or if they do it's very basic ham sandwiches and the like. So if you're looking to be waited on this place may not work for you. Oh, there is at least one huge sigh in neon letters advising you to place orders at the bar too, so if you missed that or you don't appreciate "true" Irish atmosphere then please don't bash this place. Educate yourself on what an authentic experience should be like before you give bad reviews.

This was our first visit, hopefully of many even though it's a 45-minute drive from our house. The staff were friendly and efficient and our lunch was fantastic. After agonizing over some traditional options we settled on a fish fry which, as many other reviewers have stated, was expertly cooked and delicious, and a shepherd's pie which was prepared just like we've had many times in Ireland. If you like your shepherd's pie smothered in cheese, go eat at an American "Irish" pub because that's not the real thing! Both came with buttered soda bread and coleslaw and were piping hot, huge portions at very reasonable prices. Overall great value.

Authentic atmosphere and some fun reading if you're careful to look at the various signs and books on display. Again this is very much like the real thing. Would love to stop by some evening to hear some Irish music too.

Not sure about this old Irish Pub concept, we had to ask. We had to go to the bar to order. Drinks you take to your table yourself, food they will bring it to you. Small menu but Irish Pub food. We had the fish and chips. Best we have ever had. Cooked perfect and tasted perfect. We will have to go back to try other things on the menu. Only the fish was so good, might just have the fish again. Try it, lots of conversation, great food and since you wait on yourself, the service is the best.
