Description: FAILTE! [WELCOME!] The Celtic Ray Public House in downtown Punta Gorda opened in 1997 by Proprietor Kevin Doyle. At the time there wasn’t a single establishment in the area that offered a variety of quality imported beers and the atmosphere of a traditional Irish Pub. We serve only high-quality imported draught beers, bottled beers, ciders, fine wines, as well as, a selection of “soft” beverages. We also have expanded with the ‘other side’ and now have a full liquor bar! Our menu features traditional Irish Pub favorites made from fresh ingredients and family recipes. The Celtic Ray’s Fish & Chips are famous worldwide! See you at the Ray, Slainte!

Have been here before on a Sunday afternoon and enjoyed listening to a session, hoisting a few cold ones in a very typical Irish Pub but St. Patty's Day was a huge disappointment!! No music inside which made no sense and outside under a tent they had a big crowd that sat there listening to the first band playing folk music and songs that Simon and Garfunkel sang. After many complaints we went inside and told bartender to let the owner know that was not what St. Patty's Day is all about. We then heard some Irish music for a short time from same person and then 2 guys came and played some really good Irish music. The food was not appealing and we chose not to buy it. We did let the owner know-he was very defensive and not receptive to feedback. He said we should have come the week before when they had the Irish Festival--seriously??? Well, next year we will be going to Pineapples or Carney's in Venice where hopefully Ken McBride will be putting on a fabulous Irish show as in the past.

Love the beers & great Friday fish fry. I give it two thumbs up! Casual place with live music & happy people.

I/we like the Celtic Ray but it can be crowded and noisy. You have to place your own order for food at the bar and then pay for it at the bar. There is no table service. Otherwise the food is good.

This place looks the part; very rustic with many draft beers from the Old Sod and England. We had the intention of eating there until we spotted the ketchup and mustard in plastic squeeze bottles. One of our party owns a successful sport bar in RI, and he commented that while those are refilled regularly, in his experience they are rarely if ever cleaned. Yuck.

We sat at the bar, and while two bartenders walked by often, they never made eye contact. When we spoke up to get their attention, in each case we were treated with an attitude. Not the least bit welcoming. Two beers each, and we were out of there.

Went for Valentine's Day to eat and hear Irish music. Guiness stew, sheperd's pie, and potato and leek soup were excellent. Unfortunately, we left early because we couldn't enjoy the music. Only available spot was upstairs where you had to view the band on a flat screen. We didn't feel part of the group and were very isolated. This was our first and last visit.
