Description: FAILTE! [WELCOME!] The Celtic Ray Public House in downtown Punta Gorda opened in 1997 by Proprietor Kevin Doyle. At the time there wasn’t a single establishment in the area that offered a variety of quality imported beers and the atmosphere of a traditional Irish Pub. We serve only high-quality imported draught beers, bottled beers, ciders, fine wines, as well as, a selection of “soft” beverages. We also have expanded with the ‘other side’ and now have a full liquor bar! Our menu features traditional Irish Pub favorites made from fresh ingredients and family recipes. The Celtic Ray’s Fish & Chips are famous worldwide! See you at the Ray, Slainte!

We were there the first week of 2013 for dinner. I had the Fish and Chips and my wife had the Beef Vindaloo. The fish and chips was tasty, perfectly fried and hearty big portion. The Vindaloo was more subdued and sure to not burn any palette, but very delicious. The Leek and Potato Soup was a bit light on leek and potato, and heavy to creamy, but tasted pretty good. The Irish beer selection is geared more to darker ales, but Harp is there and at the right temperature.

If you want quiet, this is not the place, as the floors, ceiling and walls are acoustically hard. They had a band the night we visited and the place was LOUD. This is not a criticism of The Celtic Ray, just a fact. If you like a lively, noisy crowd and good Irish-Style food/drink, this is your place.

Exploring our new winter home town and reading trip advisor lead us to this great Irish pub. We both choose the fish and chips, lunch portion was big enough, and dove into tasty fish with an outstanding light batter. Both the fish and chips were piping hot when the cook brought them out from the kitchen.

The deor is dark and the feeling is pub-like. You walk to the bar to place your order. Loved it, we will be back often.

A super place to meet friends and enjoy a beer in this much expanded Celtic Ray with the new section downstairs and upstairs now open. No food is served upstairs however. The menu prices have gone up several dollars and that can make a difference in the number of times we visit but we do like to meet our friends here. Live music is offered much of the time but you have to check out when and where. Music can be good but it can also interfere with conversation so we choose to go when there is no music.

Beer selection is ok at best. Food is good. Seems to be an older crowd each time I go and not too many people in the 30 something category. Bartenders are hot and cold.

This is THE restaurant to go to! A true Irish Pub with the addition of more space..... live music, great people (staff and patrons, both).
The owner and staff are the best! Music is fun... ya just have to sing along to some of it!
FOOD.... Best fish n chips anywhere! Irish traditional: shepards pie, pasties, Guiness....
Cannot say enough good for this establishment!
