This review is for the side of the park on Walton Road, in Port St. Lucie. The campsites are to the north, in Fort Pierce, and miles away via US1. This is where there are educational exhibits, rangers and volunteers, and a canoe launch, water levels permitting. This is natural Florida, and a study in understated natural features. Walk slow, keep an eye out, and you may see some of Florida's natural features in ways you seldom can elsewhere. If that's what you're looking for, this is a great place for it. Don't come looking for zip lines and electronic entertainment.

I've walked the trails a half-dozen times, and seen rattlesnakes, osprey, eagles, owls, turtles, gators.

Stop into the station to the right and ask for Tessa. She is a truly friendly and loving soul. She is in love with the park and it is very hard to stump this one with a question. Inside you can get a trail map, see animal scat samples and casts of tracks from various critters. Have a seat and take in a little video and even have various material for sale. Multiple trails. Can walk or bike them. Lots of water now in the park reflecting the rains we have been having. Can Kayak, canoe, photograph plants , alligators, birds. If you like the outdoors this is your place. Old Florida.

Park is beautiful, the staff is amazingly friendly and accomodating. They are super dog friendly, too, which is great. We camped with another couple and were allowed to use one site for both tents, although the sites are a bit shallow and narrow, and there is no shade almost anywhere, so make sure you bring an umbrella or cables and tarp for a cover. Our site backed up to a little canal, and the fish were jumping like crazy, so we did some fishing right from our place...however, and it's a BIG however, the canal was crawling with gators. One popped up, then a few others..by dinner time we had 6 of them lurking around 10 feet from our tents. One crawled on the banks, even! I was a little unsettled, having a dog with us and all. While the place is gorgeous I don't know that I would ever come back. This is not a negative review, I just want people to know what they're getting themselves into. We had no idea. If you don't mind being THAT close to nature, you'll love it there.

Great place to walk or kayak. Been coming here for a few years now. This year it was the first place we visited - to walk and decompress. Even saw a Gopher Turtle!

Gives you the chance to see Florida as it was. It is well maintained and cheap. There are a number of entry points.
