“CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!”
Reviewed April 11, 2010

If you are looking for fun, family, and value, this is the place! This was our first time at a Club Med

My wife and I drove from Virginia to Port St. Lucie with 4 kids (10, 8, 5, and 18 months) and arrived on Easter Sunday. We left the following Saturday. Our expectations were very low because of the age of the complex and the fact that it was all inclusive.

WOW! What a place. We had an awesome time. 3 of our children cried as we were pulling out of the parking lot.

Here are the highlights:
* The food was amazing both in quality and variety.
* The GO's were wonderful. A special thanks to the following that went out of their way to make our vacation wonderful and remember able: Casey Dell, Dwight McDonald, Cliff Gayle, Michael, Nicky, Melissa, Jason, Caesar. You guys made the vacation. Also a special thanks to all of the Geckos and Rascals GO's. I can't forget Todd at the Sandbar (thanks for all of the Bud Lights).
* Thanks for checking us in Ashley and getting us situated.
* The night shows as well as the kid’s shows were fabulous.
* The U2 cover band was fantastic. Get them back again and email me.
* The accommodations were adequate, but dated. Looking forward to seeing the renovations after the fall.
* The circus shows and training were great.
* Chief Jean, please applaud the above GO's. Those individuals made your resort and our treat.

Constructive Suggestions Chief Jean (none if these would keep us from coming back):
* Power wash the decks and walkways nightly.
* Provide Chardonnay at lunch and Dinner. Reisling does not work day after day.
* Provide more details to parents (either at initial registration or each morning) regarding all shows and times if children are signed up for kids club. It will help with planning the trip. Our kids wanted to do everything and it would have been nice to know ahead of time which nights were kid show nights at the beginning of the trip.
* Have later reservation times for the sit down restaurant. When you pay $20 a child (times 4 children) for pajama club for 7pm to midnight, you would expect to be able to have a later dinner after checking your children in. We could only have 6:30 or 7:00. There should be an opportunity for a couple’s dinner and not in the Buffett Restaurant.

Bottom Line - We cannot wait to go back and hope all of the GO's don't move on before we can get back.

Our family has been going to the club med resorts for years and we cant get enough! Since we live in georgia we go to the one in FL most often to avoid airline fees. This was our third visit to Sandpiper and we still left in awe of what a great vacation we had.

The rooms are spacious and have nice closet organization. They do need some updating but we did not spend much time in our room. The rooms were clean and if you needed anything or were unhappy with something the service was exceptional. I know they are closing the resort in August to do full renovations of the resort and are investing millions of dollars in to the renovations. They said it will reopoen by christmas time so i cant wait to come back and see the changes.

The food is extrodinary. Each night there were many different options of things to eat and you could not go wrong. My family left every meal on a full and happy stomach. It is a resort that many french people come too and i know they would not vacation somewhere with bad food.

The highlight of my trip was the flying trapeze. They have a real, safe trapeze like there is in the circus. The staff whorun the circus portion of the resort are extremly friendly and helpful. After you master the basic knee hang catch they work with you to master new tricks. Mannie was in charge when i was there and he defintly knows what he is doing and you will be safe with them. The circus trapeze is a must if you go on vacation here.

What can I say when you see that we have vacationed 15 times at the same Club Med village in Port St. Lucie, Florida? I can say that we have been going there for 15 years, starting when my daughter was 3, and just returning home from her graduation trip request, at now 18! This resort has been like our second home, and every time we return we feel so welcomed and at home. Our daughter knows the village so well that we do not worry one second when we do not see her for a good part of the day. We know she is with her friends who have also returned from various parts of the country, and with whom she has emailed since her previous trip! Imagine how good we felt upon our arrival when there was a group of 5 teenagers waiting to greet Emily and give her a hug!!!!!
It almost is like Sandpiper is the "camp" experience that we had hoped for for Emily. In fact, she feels more allegiance to Sandpiper than to any of the other summer camps and programs she has attended throughout her childhood!!!! Starting at age 3, she participated in the amazing mini club, going from a "Gecko" to the kid's club, to the teen club, and now at 18, hanging out with her teenage friends, running to sail, swinging from the circus trapeze, taking tennis lessons, or doing to "Sun Dance" by the pool.
I started taking her there as a young widow, and then becoming engaged there sometime later to my now husband of 14 years, and returning as a blended family for years following, with our older daughter and son, too.
When we told our daughter she could go anywhere she wanted as a high school graduation gift, she didn't even hesitate one second to shout, "Club Med, Sandpiper!!!"
Both my husband and I were not surprised at her request!!!! We, too, were happy to be back!"
Ok, so I must say that in the past few years, the Club Med fun atmosphere was disappearing because guests expected a quiet and low key vacation. The best parts of the experience started to be cut! No more Sun Dance because the dancing and music by the pool "disturbed" some of the guests! No more animators who made us laugh all day long, and came up with original characters, sight gags, and pranks. We never saw the Chef de' Village, and the Club Med feeling was missing. It felt like a nice resort in Florida, but certainly, not like a Club Med!!!!
We just returned from our week there this past Friday night, relaxed, tan, exhausted, and smiling from Sandpiper the way we remembered it years ago!!!! It was absolutely great!!!
The head of the Club, Jean Marc, was always visible and so friendly and helpful. He listened to our suggestions, and even implemented them! Every time we saw him he was genuinely interested in how we were doing, and he had a very upbeat and fun way of making the G,M.'s feel welcomed; the G. O.'s (staff) also maintained that warm, fuzzy, and fun manner. I have never been with such an upbeat and pleasant group of G.O's as there were this past week!
Some of the G.O.'s must be mentioned: Lisa Snyder and Melissa, the two lifeguards at the well run pools, went out of their way to make us feel at home. They were genuinely interested in us, and we even spent time with them sharing meals, and evening activities. By the end of the week, they felt like family, and we will miss them!!!!
Kim, who taught Zumba and water aerobics, always had a smile and welcomed everyone to her classes. Weren't we surprised to see her and Melissa in the wonderful evening performance of Dancing Queen, one of the many great shows performed by all the G.O's, from sailing, the reception, boutique, and kids' club!!! These young men and women work day and night making sure their guests truly enjoy their week.
Nicola, from Italy, and Jean Marc's assistant, always had a smile, and his routines on stage or at the circus using a whistle, rather than speaking, were absolutely hilarious. He just radiated happiness and fun wherever he was! No wonder he is becoming the Chief of the Village in a Club in Italy, soon!
Wow, not only did they bring back the Sun Dance, but the Fountain of Youth routine that is absolutely hilarious!! Imagine our surprise and delight to see such a fun and light hearted production at the pool!!!!! Hands Up to everyone there!!!
We had mixed emotions to hear that the club is being redone shortly. We will miss the comfort of knowing what to expect, yet we are excited to see the facilities remodeled and updated, too. It has worked well since 1985, but they correctly see that the resort needs renovation.
Being long time G,M.'s we were thrilled to see that Club Med has finally instituted a Loyalty Program!!!! It feels good to know that they reward returning guests with nice perks such as boutique discounts and gifts. We always felt they needed to do this, and so glad they finally did!
Will we go back? Yes, but after a year or two. Now that our daughter is off to college and we are empty nester's, we may try Colombus Isle as a couple, but I am sure we will be back with our family to our "home away from home", Sandpiper!!!!!

If you have kids go, if not stay away. Old resort, claim they will be renovating soon; it needs it! Buffet restaurant only. Kids allowed in bar area day & night ordering non alcoholic drinks. Small adult only pool which is supposed to be a quiet relaxing spot, the Zoomba exercise area is right there with blaring rock music. Beach very small, on the river, water a murky brown. Jet skis and golf are not included. Asked for wake up call and we were called on the wrong morning. An hour and $100.00 taxi ride to West Palm Beach. No info on site for surrounding area, attractions, wildlife, birds, beaches, museums, shopping etc.

We have 3 kids (10, 8, 4) and this was the most fun family vacation we've had in a long time. Renting a condo at the beach, paying for food and activities would have been WAY more expensive and not as much fun. The food was very good - plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables - easy to eat healthy - and also a lot of kid friendly foods too. The kids activities were awesome. The kids had an absolute ball. The grounds are beautiful. Rooms are older, but very spacious and totally adequate. When we left, we did a day at Disney, but wished we had stayed at Club Med. It was much more fun and relaxing than Disney!

We have been going to Club Med for about 3 years now. We've gone to Cancun, Punta Cana, and Ixtapa twice. Generally we have gone after the resorts have been recently refurbished. We know what to expect from a club med and know it's not the Ritz. We've had excellent luck until Sandpiper. We, as others, were clearly told that Sandpiper had been refurbished. It was falling apart. Paint peeling, most things extremely old and falling apart. What a contrast to their other properties. GOs were still typical club med but management has definitely decided not to spend any money on this place. In fact they were too cheap to heat the pool to a temperature warm enough so that my wife could enjoy the water aerobics. But the sign stating the water temp was every bit in step with the marketing of Sandpiper, 5 degrees off to the warm side.

Fantastic! My husband, 2 1/2 year old daughter, infant son and I (plus grandparents and an aunt who opted to join us) all enjoyed our stay. The GOs (staff) for the kids were loving, attentive, creative, warm and all-around top-notch.. Both kids were in rooms with age-appropriate toys, activities, etc. There were even separate dark rooms for napping. The outdoor area with toddler toys, sandbox, swings, etc. is appropriately shaded. We appreciated that the facilites were open all day so we could access and enjoy the resources even outside of standard "mini club" hours. My daughter was happilly exhausted each day from playing, and my son was so loved and well-cared for too. The baby/mini-club allowed the kids to be fully engaged while my husband and I actually relaxed, enjoyed the adult facilities and had a vacation too. We hope to return, and can't wait to see the upgrades and enhancements the kids area and overall facilities will get as part of the resort's scheduled overall "facelift" this fall.
