“Okay but overpriced for the area”
Reviewed October 6, 2012 via mobile

Like some other reviewers I too am a Hilton Honors member. I did read the mixed reviews but booked two nights thinking it couldn't be as bad as some said. And it's not. While checking in I told the desk clerk that I had read some bad things. Within twenty minutes she called the room to see if everything was satisfactory and it was. The second floor balcony was impressive probably 12 by 12 with two chairs and a lounge chair plus a small side table. The breakfast, though not the best Hampton I've had, was certainly not "terrible" as one reviewer complained. The staff was always pleasant and even drew us a map in order to help us. The upcoming renovations should certainly improve this hotel. The big downside to this place is that it's not competitively priced. There are some other nearby places that are $30-50 cheaper including a very nice Country Inn and Suites (our friends stayed there). By the way there's a nearby slot casino. Don't go there. It's a ripoff. You put money on a card but in order to win gift cards (no cash), you have to win more than your initial cash outlay but you don't get the whole winnings because your initial outlay is deducted. Boy, was I dumb or what? Rhetorical question!

Stayed here one night while on a business trip. I received a warm welcome from the front desk staff, which is a good start to any stay. The room was clean and everything was in good working order. The breakfast was not the best Hampton fare I've had, but in the range of what to expect, depending on location and day. If you are a HiltonHHonors groupie and want to get your points, this will work. It is at a well-developed interchange on I-75, with many restaurants and stores nearby.

Dear Toomuchtravel,

We understand at Hampton Inn when you travel often, a warm welcome and comfortable bed are necessary! Our staff is pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and I shared your review with them when we received it. We have remodeled the hotel, 100% since your visit. We have also updated our breakfast not only as a brand, but also at our hotel as far as making sure our road warriors like yourself get the variety you need. Please do not hesitate to ask for anything that you would enjoy during your next visit. We also have more restaurants and two being built near the hotel as well. We know if your travels bring you back to Port Charlotte, you will be amazed by our new Hampton Inn. Please let me know if you plan on returning!

This Hampton Inn in Port Charlotte is by far the worst Hilton Family Property in the State of Florida. Stay away! It has a mildew smell and every room needs a dehumidifier. The hallways are barely air conditioned. The breakfast is "bare-bones". It is also not cheap. There are other Hamptons just a few miles up the road. They claim they are re-furbishing soon; they should close until completed. This property is definitely an embarrassment to the Hilton brand,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about our hotel. We apologize for the bad smell during your stay. Starting on Aug 20th we were having our common area air conditioners cleaned by a Air Conditioning company. During this the air conditioning in the hallways was off as they were removing the coils and cleaning them. We have had dehumidifiers in our rooms since we opened in 1997 to help with the humidity in Florida and that we are located on a lake behind the hotel. We understand that travel is very important and try to make sure all our guests have a rewarding experience at our hotel. We have addressed our breakfast staff in regards to the quality of service that they are providing. We have already started some of the upcoming renovations as we are replacing all guest room windows starting tomorrow. The full scale of the renovations will be starting in the next month and the result will be a "NEW" hotel. We will be done with these renovations by the end of this year. We hope that if your travels bring you back to Port Charlotte next year you will stay with us so that you can check out our new look.

The hotel will be undergoing renovation in the next few months. That will just improve an already nice property. Ranking Hampton Inns (and I've probably stayed at 30) this is very good. The front desk could not have been nicer. The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast was good. We will stay there again.

I stayed at this location for two nights and had zero issues. Staff was nice and even changed my reservation when requested. I had to shorten my stay due to business.
