“OMG! A good restaurant in Port Charlotte with live jazz no less!”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

My husband and I went to JD's last night for dinner and were blown away. We are here for a few weeks in the fall and then again in the spring as we have a place that we rent out through the winter. We love it here but the shortage of good restaurants has been frustrating. We are so happy we have discovered JD's. Service was great and the ambiance is wonderful! The food is superb and they have a decent wine list although it could use a few more French selections. We enjoyed the live jazz and are going back this week to check out another performer. It can rival many of our Toronto restaurants. Keep up the good work!

“A Great Evening @ JD's Bistro”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

I had only been to JD's on one prior occasion shortly after the restaurant opened. It was good, but obviously there was a lot of room for improvement. Last evening we returned to JD's and we were truly "wow'd." The restaurant had obviously hit its stride, and what a stride it is. My spouse and I were originally going to meet our friend at a restaurant about 40 minutes from our house, and knowing we were going to be starting with martinis and moving on to wine with dinner, I suggested JD's as a shorter drive home. I was also curious about the restaurant, having heard and read very good things about it, which it turned out was for obvious reasons.

We were greeted by the matre d' and informed our table was ready, but if we wanted to join our friend at the bar, take our time and do so. We each had a very nicely sized martini at the bar, which contrasted very favorably with some of the mini-martinis we are used to getting in certain Punta Gorda restaurants. The bartender was friendly, skilled and attentive. We finished our martinis at our table, where we were promptly provided with bread and water, and greeted by our server, who offered us another round. My wife and I passed, switching in her case to a Sonoma Merlot while I chose a Tuscan Sangiovese by the glass. The wine list was unique in that so many of there better selections were offered by either the bottle or the glass, which allowed us to each explore invididual choices.

JD's Bistro offers a very diverse menu, and also a fair variety of specials. In the end, all three of us chose the potato soup, which was superb, and the black & blue sirloin steak on the special list. The steaks, while not huge, much more like a filet than a sirloin, was tender and very tasty. It was served with a delicious medley of vegetables and excellent mashed potatoes. The presentation was first class, as was the quality of the service. We passed on dessert, and went through a few cups of fresh brewed excellent coffee each.

All this was accompanied by traditional club music from an excellent three-piece band whee the lady drummer also was also the singer. They were great and we just sat and sat. Oh, the decor is lovely and the atmosphere very enjoyable. Great drinks, great food, great service, great music, all combined into a great evening. I've rated a number of restaurants on TripAdvisor. I generally prefer to only choose those I enjoyed, following the adage, if you have nothing good to say about something, say nothing at all. I strongly recommend JD's Bistro.

Wow delicious. Fine dining in the middle of Port Charlotte....you say, "No way" Oh Way!
Piano playing, tablecloths, choices of wine.......You will want to be sure you bring the Hubs wallet though.

The food at JD's Bistro was very good, a nice surprise to have live entertainment, great service provided by our friendly waitress and bartender!! We were staying next door at the Days Inn Hotel (A+) and it was nice to be able to walk next door for dinner.

“Do You Like Jazz and Good Food?”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

If you do, go to JD's. We have gone there a number of times and have taken friends on several occasions. Everyone has always been thrilled. You can have a hamburger or some very refined entrees. Either way, the food is great, the two for one martinis before 6 are outstanding, and the jazz is delightful. This is a rather refined restaurant that also has jazz. It is not a cheap night out, but it is worth it!
