“Great during special events”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

We were at this restaurant on a Saturday night in late February when they had entertainment, The Goldtones, who were playing there once a month. (Four guys who sing 1950's songs; excellent if you are the right age for this genre!) Other groups were playing other Saturday nights .... not sure about week nights re: entertainment.

Anyway, the room (upstairs, not the main restaurant) was packed when we arrived at 6:45. Not sure if it always is but it was when we were there. And that was the problem; they did not have enough staff so it was a long wait to get a drink (about 15 minutes after we ordered) and a 40 minute wait for our dinners. (Friends at another table waited over an hour for their dinners.)

The food was fine; not memorable but fine. The price was very reasonable in my opinion (but I always think so in Florida.) And there is a great view of the water; sunset was beautiful that evening. (It was a cold night se we were indoors; I believe it's outdoors in better weather ... not sure.)

If there is a group playing that you want to see, I would certainly recommend going to Portofino for dinner that evening. (Maybe it's faster if you arrive early and order ASAP?). Just do not go if you are very hungry; if there is a big crowd, you won't eat very soon. In truth, that was not a problem for us, since we had had a snack in the afternoon.

“Romantic dinner at sunset”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

This restaurant is easy to get to and is right on the water with the best sunset view from Port Charlotte. The building is attractive with four different dining options: An outdoor deck, a covered sports bar deck, an indoor large bar and indoor restaurant seating. We loved eating on the deck and watching the sunset. We tried the coconut shrimp which were crispy but succulent inside. No problem with making a switch on one of the sides. Got the mashed potatoes which were terrific. Our waitress Jamie was also terrific. Personable and knowlegable about the menu. The crowning dish was the seafood steampot. A real steam pot came to the table with many clams, mussels and shrimp steamed inside with the shellfish juice all around. A side dish of angel hair was presented and you poured the steam pot over the pasta. Wow! Be prepared to get into that dish right up to you elbows. Great. Wine was a good price at $4.50 a glass. Our appetizer of chargrilled oysters was ok, but too much parmesan cheese on top and you couldn't taste the rather small oysters. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone, but while they could easily accomodate little children, etc., it seems better suited to couples and adults wanting an evening out. Just my opinion.

“What a great find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013

Was out for a walk along the pier, and spotted Portofino along the way. We were going to have dinner somewhere else, but decided to go inside, and have a quick peek at the menu. We left and continued our walk, but decided since we were already in the area, to have dinner at Portofino. Great decision! Amazing view of the water. Had a drink at the bar while we waited for the table. Service was good, although we were approached by another waiter after one had already taken our order, so a bit of a misunderstanding there...Food was excellent, fish was cooked to perfection. Finished dinner with another walk along the water. All in all was a great little find. Try it, you won't be dissappointed.

“Not bad, but could have been better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

Four of us arrived at 12:20pm for lunch. Because of the strong winds, we chose to sit inside and were seated at a nice table with nice views of the harbor. Our drinks were served and orders taken by 12:30pm. Not bad. We were served our meals at 1pm, a bit longer than we wanted but not terrible. Food was ok to good, overall service satisfactory, atmosphere good, and the prices were reasonable. We decided we would go there again primarily because of the view but there are other better area choices for the food and service.
