We travel often and I would rate this hotel as an upper-tier hotel but not quite premiere. We chose the Lodge as an ocean-front perk for our business trip to Jacksonville. The positives:
1. Oceanfront views from all rooms
2. The restaurant-fabulous food and staff. $$$ but a worthwhile treat.
3. The gym access with a nominal fee for 2yr old daycare. This is so rare-and such a wonderful perk because we could utilize the child care to have an equally rare parent only lunch
4. The majority of the staff are welcolming and warm.
(5. the gift shop now has a small shovel set)
The negatives-
1. Our room had some wear and tear consistent with being on the ocean front. I didn't mind this but I would think that for the cost, some would.
2. I had trouble with the concierge/front desk coordinating travel arrangements for the business aspect of the trip. Frankly, I was surprised. In all other areas, the service was superb.

We stayed at the PV Lodge and Club for a 4 night family beach getaway. We booked an Ocean Suite because of the size of the room, as our kids are 16 and 6.
First the Pros:
-Great room, nicely decorated and spacious. The king bed was very comfortable, and our room was able to accommodate a queen pull-out sofa and a rollaway. The fireplace was a nice touch in the evenings - it is ignited by a light switch and does not generate much heat. The bathroom was very pretty and had a separate shower and jacuzzi. The kitchenette was handy to have in the room, but don't expect to cook any meals, as it is equipped with only a small refigerator, microwave and 4-cup coffeepot. The coffee was provided daily.
-Terriffic service. Everything we requested was handled in a timely manner and with a smile. They booked my Husband's tee time at Sawgrass, which made my Husband's entire trip.
-Beautiful beach. The beach is quiet and quite large and easy to walk on. We walked every night and passed very few people. There is also a lifeguard in front of the hotel.
-Good food. We only ate at the Oasis Restaurant by the beach but there is a wide selection of entrees and everything tasted great. We also ate room service one night and that was good as well.
The cons, (There are only 2.)
-Although this resort claims to be family oriented, it seemed to be much more adult oriented. The adult pool and hot tub are centrally located in the middle of the hotel right next to the Oasis restaurant. If anyone in your party was under 18, you were directed to the family pool. The family pool is located on the north end of the hotel and is about 2/3s the size of the adult pool. If there were more than 3 families there, it was crowded. There are no bells and whistles, just a small rectangular pool. My son enjoyed it nonetheless for the few times we used it. We were there for the beach. Also, don't plan on stopping at the Lodge shop for a pail and shovel, as they do not carry any. I was told I would have to go to Target for that.
-The price of the beach chairs and umbrellas. We rented 4 beach chairs and 2 umbrellas every day for the beach, and paid a whopping $84 a day. I am used to paying $50 as that seems to be the norm at other beaches, but I found $84 to be rediculous.
All in all, we had a great stay and look forward to returning for another getaway next Summer.

The Lodge and Club is a very nice property, but best for either couples or families with older children. Our daughters are 3,7,12,and 14.We booked the presidential suite and were told that we could walk out our back door to the pool and then from the pool to the beach. This was not the case. The small family pool access was very close, but there was no beach access from this pool and the closest beach access was not as close as we would have liked. It appears that the "presidential suite" is mostly used for families as it is at the very end of the hotel, thereby minimizing interruptions from small children to other guests. I also assume this is used a lot for families because the couch had stains and all the furniture was in need of cleaning. The carpet also looks like it needs to be replaced before too long. As mentioned by others, the staff and service is excellent. Every request we made was met cheerfully and promptly and that is what made our stay, despite the need for updating of the decor, so pleasureable. I would recommend this hotel but would highly recommend requesting a room whose back door opens into the fountain courtyard. This will put you right in front of the beach access and right next to the adult pool and hot tub which is also adults only. To sum up, the beachfront location is beautiful and peaceful, but this hotel is slightly overrated. Families with young children (12 and under) will be happier at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club(same ownership), which we moved to for our last three days and which I also reviewed.

This is a fine resort on the Atlantic coast that will not dissapoint. The only reason I gave it 4 stars, instead of 5, is that housekeeping could have done a better job of cleaning our room (I don't think they vacuumed once). But, other than that, our stay was practically perfect. We stayed from December 30 - January 3. We got an extremely low AAA rate of $270 per night for an oceanfront king room. I'm sure the same room is at least double that amount in high season. The rooms are very spacious and quiet (although we did hear water flowing down through the pipes on occassion from our upstairs neighbor and heard our next door neighboor a couple of times). The ceilings are high, with exposed beams and a ceiling fan. We had a balcony and window seat. We couldn't open the mini bar fridge b/c it was locked and they didn't provide us with a key, but the turn down service provided us with bottled water, chocolate, and pretty seashells (nice touch and souvenirs for us). The bathoom is the largest I've ever had in a hotel - double sink, with granite countertops, and a huge garden tub, with a separate walk-in marble shower. Shower pressure could have been stronger, and I initially had difficulty getting the right temp on the H2O. They had very good toiletries, which were usually replenished every day. Towels were nice and fluffy. The bed was a little firm, but comfy. Service at the hotel was pretty good. I worked out at their gym (it's included in your $18/day resort fee), which is a decent size and has adequate equipment. He had "high tea" one day - the finger sandwiches were great and so were the cookies (scones were a little burnt). The resort is located in a very upscale area. I believe it's actually a club to which many locals belong. Recommendations on what to do in the area (besides go to the beach): (1) 30 minutes to the south is St. Augustine (a charming city; visit the old town, el Castillo de San Marcos - the Spanish fort, Flagler College, and Lightner Museum - all are easily walked to; had fabulous fresh shrimp at the White Lion pub), and (2) 10 minutes to the north is Jacksonsville Beach (we had New Year's Eve dinner at Giovanni's, an excellent Italian restaurant - the chocolate hazelnut cake was to die for!).

The Lodge has set a new standard in my book for property quality and service. The staff was flawless, consistently gracious throughout our visit. The room (the Premium Oceanfront) was delightful, no expense spared to produce a couple's ultimate hideaway experience. The small touches (lavender bath salts, exceptionally comfortable robes, bathroom candles)
