My wife and I went out for a quick bite New Years Eve. First went by Brucci's, our close-by go to, but they were closing at 8:00. Drove up to Al's, ordered a deluxe pizza and a couple of beers. The beer was good, but sorry to say the pizza was horrible. It was if the ran out to Publix and bought a frozen DeGiorno and popped it in the oven. Actually, it wasn't that good. Very disappointing.

Have dined in and picked up pizzas from this Al's restaurant for over 7 years. Quality of food and service has been inconsistent - very mediocre. However, on Sunday evening, 12/29, both quality and service were extremely poor. Staff did not greet, nor take down names of customers as they entered the restaurant and waited patiently by the very "tight" and very uncomfortable entrance/exit; wait time was longer than usual since staff did not clean/clear tables expeditiously as diners left the restaurant; pizza and crust were undercooked – clearly the pizza was “rushed” and therefore did not taste very good; drinks were never refilled, nor did anyone ask to refill our drinks (as they have in the past); and front register, where take-out pizzas are usually paid for, refused to take payment for our sit down dinner, since waitress had not returned to table to take our payment. (Truly unbelievable. And highly inefficient, disorganized and not customer-friendly.) This “dining experience,” (and I use this term very loosely), was poor and disappointing.

When I spoke to the night manager, she apologized and explained they were understaffed. She proceeded to offer me a gift card for a later visit. I immediately declined. What this restaurant and its staff need to learn, is how to treat and take care of its customers (from start to finish), regardless of whether or not they are fully staffed or completely understaffed. There should never be an excuse for bad quality and service. Never ! Note: If you do choose to dine here, I suggest you go on “off hours” – which is anytime other than 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and most weeknights. Or you can call in and pick up your meal. (Your chances of getting a fully cooked pizza, average service, and maybe a drink refill (if you’re dining-in), would likely be improved.)

We have ordered the mussels several times and they are consistently well made. They come with garlic bread that you can dip into the broth. Delicious!

Al's is a great little place for good food in Nocatee. One of the few choices you have there, but it is a good one.

A favourite with the locals in Ponte Vedra and Jax Beach. Long established pizza restaurant which is consistent in quality. If you go on Thursdays, beer is $1.00 a glass and so is the house wine.
Now that is difficult to best!
