TPC at Sawgrass Valley Course

Owner description: A golf course similar to the Stadium Course, but the greens are longer and flatter.
Reviewed June 11, 2013

Played this course as part of the stadium course package, this course is excellent too although the greens were very poor, however, we were told this when we checked in and gave us a voucher. Would love to play again once the greens have recovered.

Played here the weekend prior to the Players championship. The greens were a mess. Recently sanded, they were bumpy and nearly impossible to putt on. The rest of the course was obviously suffering from a lot of play since the stadium course was closed. If going there during this time, suggest finding another course to play.

This is the 2nd Dye design i have played, and it wasn't too intimidating, either, so I guess we played the "right" tees. There was about 3" of rain the day previous, so a rain delay was necessary. Also, construction closed the front nine, so we played the back nine twice.
We got a pretty good deal on the green fee, on Golfnow.com, much better than we could get even though we were Resort Guests. (No "deals" available on The Stadium Course, but our games had a lot of winter rust, so we"ll save that for another visit.)
Conditions were not totally up to scratch, but late March is a bit early for that locale, I guess, so we'll give them a pass for the conditions, this time.
We really enjoyed the Sunday evening buffet at the magnificent clubhouse, the home of "The Players". It was a great deal at $14.99 each. The braised beef melted in your mouth, but while the dessert table was a little sparse, it was a good, fun atmosphere, and we enjoyed the meal as a way to end a good day. Not perfect, but still, a very good day.

Disappointing golf course conditions. You'd expect the "sister course" to the Stadium to be in better shape. The greens are horrible with bald spots, sand, and areas that are out of play. Fairways are OK but some holes had standing water issues and it hadn't rained for days. This course has a great design but it's "tired" and needs to be renovated. Hopefully TPC Sawgrass will invest the appropriate money and time and bring this course up to the level it's capable of.

Some golf courses seem out to trick you -- and frustrate you. This one is challenging, but in a friendly way. It's full of water and sand, and rolling terrain, which calls for some serious skill. But it's a lovely and welcoming course, and the demeanor of the course staff could not have been warmer or more welcoming. We loved the entire experience from start to finish -- even the thunderstorm that sent us racing back to the club-house for awhile. After your round of golf, stay for happy hour on the back deck. It's a wonderful way to end a great afternoon.
