“This hotel has been sold and is not being maintained.”
Reviewed April 29, 2006

Those who have used this hotel in the past take note: This hotel has been sold and is going to be torn down to build condos. They are not maintaining the property. The door to our balcony, which was easily accessible from the roof of the lobby, would not shut. We called the front desk and they would not give us a different room. Maintenance was unable to fix the door and we finally shut it with such force it shook the walls. Everytime we flushed the toilet the pipes sounded like a jackhammer for 3-4 minutes. They seem to have cut down on housekeepers which meant that the rooms were not cleaned until late afternoon. The attitude of the front desk was "just say no!" One of the two small elevators for this 9 story hotel was "Out of Service" for 3 of the 4 days we stayed. I would not recommend that anyone stay at this hotel for any reason.

Our hotel was not sold as your heard, but it did suffer extensive damage from a direct hit by Hurricane Wilma in October 2005 and it is true it took several years to get all our facilities completely restored. I am confident you will now find all our rooms immaculately clean and with new carpeting and drapes and a terrific view of the beach and waterway. Our Superior category rooms have new furnishings including new TVs and more. Please check our recent reviews and please try us again to see the change.

This hotel needs major renovations (found out that it is going to be torn down in a year or two to build condo's-not surprising). My Complaints: TV speakers blown (hotel wouldn't replace TV), ceiling paint pealing, not enough parking (don't dare go out for dinner, you won’t have a spot when you get back), breakfast gross (warm juice & pastry in a bag), lack of variety of cable stations (very basic only), patio doors don't lock (guest from next room could come over railing & get into your room), elevators and lobby smelled moldy, stale and gross, icemakers in lobby only (down 8 floors for ice), public areas congested with stuff (wood, dripping water, boxes..)

This hotel is not worth your time or hard earned money. The mattresses needed to be replaced, the fan in the bathroom didn't work, the shower needed to be replaced. Needless to say the entire place needed to be overhauled and updated. The place also smelled. The only good thing was it was a block away from the beach.

South Florida was hit with 4 hurricanes in 2005 including Hurricane WIlma that hit Pompano Beach and our Sands Harbor Hotel directly in October 2005. Unfortunately it took several years to get all our facilities back to good condition. We regret any disappointment our guests experienced during this time and we are confident they would be pleased with our resort today.

This ?Hotel? doesn't look like the pictures at all. Hurricane damage that has not been repaired. Very poor repairs on what had been done.
The room doors on an Outside walkway Locked if you really pulled them hard. Broken door frames, cracked doors you can see through, balcony doors didn't lock. Parking if you could get it was at a minium or park across the street for a buck an hour. The bed linens are so thin I would have used them for rags not a bed sheet. Very poorly cleaned, still smelled of something familiar to sewage. The Restaurant inside also stung of sewage. I will be writing a letter to the health department with the pictures we took.
Very dirty stairwells and the kitchen in the room was not worth using.
The gall to charge $175.00 a night is a disgrace to the tourisum industry in Florida.

We expected more when we checked in. However, what we, and perhaps other recent reviewers had forgotten, is that this area was hit by a major hurricane in 2005. The area is still recovering. The effects of the hurricane were easily seen from our balcony, where we saw what was left of the Holiday Inn, apparently devasted by the storm. Under the circumstances, we were satisfied with our stay.
On the plus side: Hotel staff were courteous and efficient. Location is superb. View from window, directly overlooking intracoastal waterway, was excellent.
The negative: Parking is very tight! Slight odor of dampness was detected, probably due to the hurricane.
Normally, I would rate a hotel in this condition just 1 or 2. In this case, I can see the potential once they completely recover from the hurricane.

In all honesty this hotel reveiw is based on the quickest visit I have ever made to any Hotel. We picked it online when looking for somewhere close to where my husband and his brother would be fishing for three days. The web-site looked attractive and promised plenty of places for me to pass the day walking, reading or eating. We arrived very late at night and were somewhat disheartened with our immediate impressions of the hotel (very shabby). The boutique beside reception displayed girly pictures cut from magazines to advertise it's wares. The noise from the bar off reception was really raucous and noisy, and the smell was rank. We did accept the keys, and we did go up to the rooms. The lamp switch (the only thing I touched) was sticky and there was rubble in the bath. The room smelt disgusting. I know all about the hurricane but either clean up or do not open. These rooms were awful, shabby and dirty. This place could not be called an Hotel in any circumstances. Do not go.

Stayed here for 10 nights in February. Had booked and paid for the hotel before the 2 negative reviews were posted so arrived with some trepidation.
Yes the hotel and room we occupied is in need of a makeover but if you approach your vacation with a half full attitude rather than a half empty one you will enjoy this place. We found the front desk helpful and friendly, our one experience with maintenance received a prompt response, our efficency was clean when we arrived and was well cleaned each day, the car park was full but we never failed to get a spot, the location is fabulous, and our balcony had the sun from dawn to dusk with a distant (2 blocks) view of the sea and close view of the activity on the intra coastal highway.
Did we get value for money? Yes without a doubt.
Would we stay here again? Yes if the hotel remains-the evidence on this stretch of coast is that affordable accommodation near the sea is disappearing to be replaced by luxury condos so whether we will be able to afford to return to Greater Fort Lauderdale is debatable unless hotels like the Sands remain.
