Calypso Restaurant is truly a local gem. It is located in a plain strip mall but do not let that deter you from stopping by. They are not open on the weekends so stop by for lunch or dinner during the week.
The menu has West Indian tones but what is truly their sweet spot is local fish cooked in several different ways. They often have hard to find fish like cobia, wahoo and hogfish. My favorite is to order it blackened with a side of their house made potato salad.
Second fave is the Calypso Cutter. A speciality sandwich made with creamy shrimp and mushroom mixture. Quite decadent and filling.
If you are in Pompano do yourself a favor and stop by for a fish sandwich and a cold beer.
