When you visit Pompano Beach, you'll notice the large Goodyear hangar which is visible from the main highways. This is the home base of the "Spirit of Innovation" Goodyear Blimp, one of 3 blimps across the USA and one in China. This blimp is often used for aerial TV shots for events from Miami up through the East Coast. Tours are free, however times vary and it's best to call for details: 954-946-8300. The tour involves meeting at the blimp base visitors center, then a short walk to the hangar. The blimp is HUGE! A guide explains what it's made of and how it flies; you can walk around and under it because it's tethered. It's actually light weight as our guide easily lifted it. Weather permitting, you can see the crew take it out of the hangar and short rides are available for purchase in advance. The get to there, take US1 north to 10th Street. Turn left on 10th to the stop light, then turn right to the blimp base.
