Food was just ok. Nothing to go out of your way for. Waitress, who is the owner's sister, overcharged us $2 on a standard menu item. Won't go back! More like a neighborhood bar.

A hidden treasure in a storefront with 2 other eateries, this family restaurant is a fun place to enjoy traditional homemade German meals. All the schnitzels are good but the veal quality tops them all. I enjoyed mine with home made spaetzel and red cabbage with enough to take home for lunch the next day. A huge selection of German beer and wine is an added treat. The wait staff is outstanding and friendly. I felt like I was in an old Bavarian neighborhood joint. Don't miss thsi one!

Many German restaurants can make good winersnitzel, but this one also makes excellent side dishes (red cabbage--the best I have had anywhere, even Germany; spatzale, German potato salad. I wish we had gone there earlier in our one week in Pompano Beach, because we would have gone there more than once.

Who knew? Unusual location. But luckily, visiting local friends who raved about this place, it was the real deal. I've lived many years in Germany and while there are more modern takes on this cuisine to be had, this place is one of the best traditional German places in the US. Decent selection of beers. Fresh breads, potentially heavy dishes that are done with a light touch and good quality meats. Then when you think you're at saturation level, some just insanely good desserts like their German chocolate cake. Service was warm and attentive like dining in someone's home. Definitely worth a detour for comfort food on one of those cooler nights in a Florida winter.

German food has always been a favorite cuisine of mine. I have eaten at German restaurants all around the country and I’ve dined at all of the ones in South Florida, several times, over the last 35 years. There is one absolutely stellar standout. It leads the pack with a substantial margin. CHECKERS OLD-MUNCHEN ON THE BOULEVARD, owned by Mr. Mat Moore, has a better selection of food and brews than any other to the point of having no competition in this field.

CHECKERS OLD-MUNCHEN features homemade family recipes that are so tasty, it is hard to believe that you are in a restaurant. The portions are generous, the seasoning is authentic and perfect, and the acute authenticity makes you feel like you purchased a ticket to the various regions in Europe where this array of amazing food and beverage are cultural riches. It doesn’t take long to discover that the staff is family and friends, evidenced by their careful attention to detail and their concern for the customer’s comfort. The feeling that is conveyed is that the guest is just that; one who has been selected and invited somewhere to have a wonderful meal, skillfully and carefully prepared for them.

The more than impressive beer list could be the best in South Florida. It’s amazing selection is not just one of quantity in it’s choices, but the same quality that has gone into selecting every measure in CHECKER’S OLD-MUNCHEN, has filtered into the choices on the Beer List. The temperature and glassware in the way the beer is served is consistent to how well everything is done in this restaurant. I always suggest to the many guests I have brought there, to try a “Boot of Kostritzer” as that is my favorite way to get started when eating there. The appetizers offer tough choices but the Kartoffelpuffer (home-made potato pancakes, applesauce & fresh sour cream.) shines bright. The salads are extremely fresh and delicious, and the entrees are the reason we drive a half hour to eat there many times a month. A traditional selection of beef, pork, & chicken items are prepared individually with Rindsrouladen, (sliced beef rolled & stuffed w/ mustard, onions, bacon, & pickles) Sauerbraten, Chicken Paprika, Pork Stroganoff, & The Wustplate (amazing German sausage selection in one meal). The side dishes are all excellent and included with your meal. It is definitely woirth it to save room for dessert, as Moor’s insistence in good taste is multi-facetted and abundant in that area of your meal - like all others.

Nothing could be clearer than the fact that CHECKERS OLD-MUNCHEN is a direct extension of Moore - which is why you feel the quality and integrity in everything from atmosphere, style, service, presentation, the bar, and the food through it’s preparation and presentation. The pricing is hard to believe for the food and brews that you are served and the way you are treated. I have chosen to have my last 5 or 6 birthday dinners there and I’ve brought out-of-town company there numerous times. CHECKERS OLD-MUNCHEN makes me look excellent, even when people are unfamiliar with German food and even when they think it may not be something for them; Everyone I have taken there becomes an immediate fan and loves every sip, bi and moment at this amazing treasure of a restaurant. Treat yourself, and those you want to impress. Few things in life will be as predictable and will consistently go as well.
