It's kinda crazy that good fresh fish isn't easy to find on the Gulf Coast but there you have it. The Fishery in Placida's the little fishing harbor is consistently satisfying. Sure - an occasional hit or miss (i.e. small salad filled w/ blah, white iceberg lettuce or an overpriced SINGLE softshell crab appetizer) but for Mahi, Redfish, Grouper (the real stuff - not the Viet Namese catfish other places foist off as grouper) this is the place. My fave is blackened but other options include baked, grilled, etc.. Have had the Shrimp Tortuga more than once- always a good choice, the baked stuffed flounder (light, fluffy, not the least bit "fishy") was a bit bland for my taste but I imagine many, like my mom, prefer their fish that way. Go for lunch or before sunset to enjoy the waterfront view. It's busy but the recent wait wasn't long and the service friendly.

We always visit The Fishery when we are in Englewood. It is definitely old Florida, a restaurant with some character & a great view overlooking the water. It is not fancy and has a nice relaxed atmosphere. There is a good variety of fresh fish which is nicely cooked according to your request. The prices are reasonable & the service is friendly . This is not five star dining but it is a great place to have some fresh fish & a cold beer/glass of wine.

So called fresh fish was seriously overlooked, to the consistency of cardboard. Otherwise, dishes are either deep fried or covered in mystery sauce. A big disappointment after reading other reviews. Also, really overpriced for what was delivered. $45 for 8 stone crab! Walt's is a much better choice.

Friend of ours who is a fisherman recommended we stop at the Fishery after going to Boca Grande. The seafood is fresh, service is good and the view is very nice Recommend taking a walk on the pier around sunset. Its Old Florida style building, so it may seem a little rough when you first approach. However the food is reasonably priced and very good quality. Hush puppies and homemade gumbo are excellent the fish is very fresh. They also make delicious fresh fried onion rings and fried clams.

My group of 6 plus a baby visited the restaurant today after being disappointed by Rum Bay Restaurant. We were seated immediately. Lisa - the waitress - immediately sensed the baby who was not feeling well and cranky, and rushed to get some things to amuse her including a plate of assorted foods and some toys to play with.
Even without that, I can't recommend the restaurant enough. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Three of us had the mahi wrap. The fish was tasty and crisp and surrounded by yummy slaw and cheese. Served on an attractively decorated plate with some fries, it was the perfect lunch. I ate all of mine but the serving was generous and my friends each took half of theirs home. My husbands tilapia and fries consisted of a overly generous serving of very lightly battered, fries and hush puppies. The fish was sweet tasting, flaky and perfectly cooked. Lisa kept the water glasses full and offered seconds to those drinking alcohol. All in all a really good experience. We'll be back.
