Description: Cabbage Key is a 100 acre island located five miles off of Pine Island, FL in the Pine Island Sound. The Inn, built in the 1940's by the family of Mary Roberts Rinehart, now houses our famous Restaurant & Dollar Bill Bar and 6 guest rooms. The rooms in the Inn are all different with old Florida charm - they do not have TVs, phones, or refrigerators. We have 8 cottages on the island, ranging from a 1 bedroom/1 bath cottage to 3 bedroom/3 bath waterfront units. All cottages have refrigerators, televisions (no cable) and coffee makers, some units have full kitchens. Our restaurant is open seven days a week and serves breakfast, lunch & dinner. Reservations are accepted for dinner only. Our hours of operation for our restaurant are listed on our website within our "Dining" section, as well as our full menus for each meal. If you want to relax on a beach...we do not have one here. But, Cayo Costa is a close kayak or boat ride away. This is a great retreat to discover "Old Florida", grab a burger for lunch, relax with a book, & watch the boats go by.

“Grouper Yum”

We did an overnight here, and stayed on a family boat. Ate dinner in the restaurant, and although only about 10 diners here, we had a great meal, with very good service. The staff stays on the island overnight, x number of nights/week, so they're available in the evening, and first thing in the morning. I had the grouper "bronzed", which is sort of "blackened Light". Great flavor!

We are delighted that you enjoyed your overnight stay at Cabbage Key. If you have visited us for lunch - I highly recommend visiting for dinner. Our Island quiets down and the menu consists of hand-cut steaks & fresh seafood - among other items. We have fresh fish delivered daily to our Island - and it can be prepared Grilled, Sauteed, Bronzed or Blackened. Our chef's can also prepare your catch - You Catch It, We Cook It! Thanks again for visiting Cabbage Key and we hope to see you again soon!

“Can't Argue with Jimmy Buffet”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

We took the tourist cruise from Captiva over to Cabbage Key. Half-off coupons made the boat trip affordable. The food (we had burgers) was average- the wife's burger a little raw- mine just right. We sat in the back dining room by the big tree with the bromeliad in it and enjoyed cold beer. Not very crowded this time of year.
The dollars hanging from every inch of the place was fascinating. We added a few with names of our grandkids! They don't play up the whole Jimmy Buffet visit much other than a few photos and his own dollar preserved.
We did the nature trail- as Floridians and outdoors people we weren't impressed by the trail at all. However it was good to walk off some calories. The tower was cool- if there are a lot of people climbing up and down you will surely feel it if you are standing at the top! It was a great place to visit and I can see that it owuld make a great pit stop for boaters!

Thank you for taking the time to write about your visit to Cabbage Key. Cabbage Key is a true "Old Florida" island hideaway. The main house which is now the inn and restaurant, was built in 1938 by playwright and novelist Mary Roberts Rinehart. A day trip to Cabbage Key on Captiva Cruises (or any of the Charter Day Boats) allows guests to experience traveling to a private Island and stepping back in time to "Old Florida" architecture and living. The open-air porches in the restaurant and no-automobiles on the island make Cabbage Key a unique destination. Thank you again for visiting our Island.

“Nice ambiance”
Reviewed September 23, 2012 via mobile

We stopped here for lunch on our way home on the boat from Cayo Costa. We ate around 4:00. They had a VERY limited menu. We ordered the smoked salmon & shrimp as an appetizer & burgers for lunch. The apps were great but the burgers just alright.....you pay for atmosphere. The drinks are NOT free refills. We are on an island, so the view is nice but kinda blah for food...

“Can only get there by boat, but worth it!”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

My wife and I along with my sister and brother-in-law rented a waterfront cottage on Cabbage Key in August. The Cabbage Patch was a two bedroom / two bath waterfront cottage with every amenity you could want. A dock out front allowed us to park my boat 50 feet from our cottage. The only way to get here is by boat, your own or one of the many ferries that travel here.

The Inn is an interesting island style lodge with tens of thousands of dollar bills taped to the walls with messages written on them. Jimmy Buffet is rumored to have written the song "Cheeseburger in Paradise while sitting at the bar. The eclectic nature of the place is worth the trip, and the food being really being good is just icing on the cake.

We ate both lunch and dinner at the Cabbage Key Inn and found it quite enjoyable. Lunch gets very crowded as this is a popular place for boaters, fishermen, and tourists alike. The food is actually quite good. The smoked salmon is smoked right on the island and is excellent. The cheeseburgers were also excellent. A little expensive (you are on an island after all) but not unreasonable. The beer was cold and my only complaint was that there was no draft beers.

Dinner was also very good. My sister and I had the fresh grouper special and it was done to perfection and very tasty. My wife had the Scampi and thought it was very good. The strip steak was very good, a nice portion and cooked to order. The coffee and key lime pie was very good and rounded out the meal. My only complaint was that the cocktails from the bar were rather ordinary...stay way from them.

I will be making this a regular stop when out boating. If you do not have a boat, hop a ferry and check it out....well worth the visit!
