Hands down, in our opinion we rate this shop as the best scuba operation in Pensacola. Actually, they don't have a shop. they work out of a trailer, but that's fine for the service they provide. Whatever they save on rent, they put toward providing an excellent diving experience. We dove with two others for other dives and didn’t like the way they did things. As we always do before we do research on area scuba shops in areas we plan to dive before we get there. We also call the shops to speak with them and get an idea of their attitude. This is a professional dive shop. Reviews for the other shops weren’t very positive and we agree. The reviews for this one were. In speaking with the owner over the phone and in person before, during and after our dive, we found this shop to be a positive experience. First, unlike some other scuba shops, this one owns its own boat. They also demonstrated to me that safety is their number one concern. On this particular day, we dove the Oriskanny, or Oriskanny’s Island as it is also known with Viking, for an all day two tank dive and it was a great experience. Diving was unique: water was flat and clear with over one hundred feet of visibility with no current. Even a beginning diver would feel comfortable on this dive with this shop. In fact, we had a diver that was just certified on board and she felt comfortable. For the dive, the boat ties off at 85 feet down on the superstructure. You then follow the line down to the superstructure, and then you can swim around the superstructure and in and out of it. The only negative item we found about this dive is the long two hour boat ride to get to the dive site and the boat ride is not comfortable. We can’t say too much about this shop. In fact, while with doing another dive a couple days later in Destin area, we were asked about dive shops in Pensacola by a few other divers. They asked for recommendations and we had no problem recommending Viking Diving. This is a very well organized shop. They own a very clean and environmental boat: they use used cooking oil for fuel. The owner is very knowledgeable about his boat, diving and the area. This guy doesn’t seem to be interested in making money. He really seems to like diving and getting people introduced to diving. Thanks Viking for a great experience. We’ll be back in the future and have no problems recommending you to others.
