This is a local institution. The place is massive, and it seems that every inch of wall is decorated. There is over $1 million in individual dollar bills hanging up in the bar area. There are autographed photos, cartoons, caricatures, and on and on. Amazing, really. Be sure to leave some time to look around!
I was lucky enough to have our group sit in a private dining room. Summer was our server, and she did an excellent job.
They have a selection of their own beers, in a variety of styles. I asked for something less hoppy, the ale was recommended, and it was great. The wine list by the glass was quite limited, though.
The menu is very varied, and has unusual items and a comic flair. The most unusual items are the 18 cent Senate bean soup, and the "hot fudge burger". We started out with sharing two appetizers.....fried calamari, which was heavy on the fried, and light on the calamari. The other one was "boxtys", an Irish dish, best described as deep fried mashed potato balls. What can be wrong with that?
I had grilled Mahi, a bit overdone. The creamed spinach was good, and it came with a "grit cake", again (surprise) deep fried. Everyone else at the table had either steak or prime rib, and all reported they were happy. The portions are huge!
I would go back, for the experience as well as the meal.
