I used to live in Pensacola and never went on this. I was missing out! That was an outstanding tour and the guides were intelligent and knew what they were talking about!

You can do the guided tour that lasts 1 1/2 hours or the self guided tour. Really interesting either way. My 9 year old was fascinated when the ladies in the kitchen offered to show him how they started fire with jute, fire cloth a flint and metal. He was hooked.

We took the tour and saw 3 homes and 1 church. The area is small but rich with history. The tour was only $5 and took less than an hour. There were more buildings to explore on your own as well as two museums.

Take the tour. It was outstanding. Many tours restrict your movement, ability to touch furnishings and can be a bit stand-offish. Not so in Pensacola. Our tour guide was great. The homes and church great visits. And we learned a lot if information you would not typically receive. Lastly we asked for a restaurant recommendation and they were spot-on recommending "The Fish House".
