“Great walking tour.”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

We visited the Naval Aviation Museum and saw the fort on our way out. Thank goodness we turned around and took the time to find this little known, but important piece of history. It's a walking tour so wear comfortable shoes. We were amazed at the design and couldn't imagine how hot it had to be for the soldiers stationed at Ft. Barrancas during the Civil War. Take and hour or so and visit this little fort. You will be glad you did.

“Take the 2 PM Tour”

Another must do family/couples/single/everyone attraction. Not for high heals. It is right by the Naval Museum.

“Another victim of sequestration...”

Terribly disappointed to show up with my grandson at Fort Barrancas on a Monday to find that they have cut the hours down to three days a week. It's a wonderful place, full of history that needs to be shared. Cut Congress' pay and open the fort all week.

“A little bit of history”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

We had visited Ft Pickens the last time we were in town and decided to visit Ft Barrancas this time. We planned on arriving for the 2pm tour. The fort is on the Navy base so we did have to go through the security checkpoint and show an ID and declare where we were headed. The officer was very helpful in giving us directions to the fort. We arrived with a few minutes to spare and a volunteer directed us up to a knoll to wait for the ranger to begin the tour. Ranger Becky was very excited to have several children on the tour and focused on getting the kids to talk about what they have been seeing inside the Gulf Islands National Seashore. I found it interesting to hear about the different creatures the kids had seen and Ranger Becky would also discuss something interesting about the animal or fish the kids were describing. We headed into the fort and Ranger Becky gave us more history of the fort and kept the kids involved in the tour. It wasn't the best tour I have ever had but it was interesting to hear about more than just the fort. The fort itself is small but I enjoyed walking around inside the passages.

“Old History”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

Great place to take the kids. This was a good stop on the base. Lots of History here. The fort faces the Ocean and you would not know it was there when you walk up on it,it is dug into the ground.
