My family and I have been to numerous forts, and we all agree that Fort Barrancas was architecturally by far the best! It is full of arches and has two tunnels. One tunnel leads to a Spanish Fort that is below Fort B. This fort has a great historic past that was told to us by a National Park Service Guide and a video. Impressive!!!

I loved this fort. It doesn't seem to get as much attention or as many visitors as Fort Pickens, but I liked it better. If you walk around the whole thing it is a pretty long walk, but worth it. The structure is really impressive with lots of arches and tunnels and much more complexity than you would expect from such an old place.

Our family enjoyed taking the boat ride out to this 1600's era fort that is part of the National Parks. You are allowed to go inside the small fort, climb the ladders and go up on the roof. There are also boardwalks through the forrest on the mainland. Our son earned a Junior Ranger Badge and learned a lot about early American history, and seashore ecology. Allow about 2 hours and bring water and sunscreen.

Fort Barrancas is a well preserved fort, mainly from the Civil War era, though some parts date back even further. As stated the fort is well preserved and has very interesting architecture featuring a draw bridge and tunnels. If you opt for the guided tour that the National Park Service provides, you get a great history lesson while touring the fort. I highly recommend visiting Fort Barrancas for a little taste of Pensacola History. I caution you though, bring your walking shoes as their is alot of ground to cover.

If you are in pensacola area, don't miss this place. It has a very good history. If you like photography, you will appreciate this one. It is about 5 minutes away from Naval Air Museum and the light house. I am glad to visit this one..
