First trip a few years ago was o.k. second, better. As they say, three times the charm. Finally let a guide walk around and tell us the background on EVERYTHING and the DIFFERENCE it made. Love, love military and war stories and they have the best in the world to see and tell about. Will go back again. We were there Oct.2013 and made 3 trips during the week. Just wish everybody could visit. Not enough space to tell it all. And you'll meet all those war hero's that are visiting! And that's a privilege!

I have traveled all over the world and by far, the Naval Aviation museum onboard Naval Air Station Pensacola is by far the best aviation museum I've ever seen. There's an IMAX theater inside with fantastic shows, the Cubi bar, serving lunch and bar drinks (family friendly), and plenty of FREE parking!
Also, the Pensacola Lighthouse is just a short walk accros the street, and Gulf Islands National Seashores, Fort Barrancas, is just a short walk from the museum entrance. One can spend the entire day checking these things out. And, keep a close eye out when outside, you may get to see the Blue Angels flying around as they are often out doing training and test flights overhead!

Visited during a Business Trip and got a chance to see the Blue Angels take off and fly around while there. Interesting Fort and Lighthouse. The national cemetery is beautiful in its own right. Starbucks on base and there is a food court over at the Naval Exchange with just about anything you could want. Wish I could have played Golf there. The course on the north of base is just absolutely beautiful with all the huge oaks that line the course and fairways.

Most of the hangers are gone from the seaplane area. The old buildings are disappearing one by one. The airfield that was near the piers is now an education area that looks more like a college campus. There is no "training carrier" to tour. The Officer's Club is a SAD SHELL of its former glory. The view of the bay from the TINY bar is cut off now with partitions. The bar is almost empty now where, in 1969, hundreds of young officers formerly partied and you were lucky to get to the other side of the room with your date still in tow. Eating "All The Shrimp You Can Eat" in whites and not getting dirty looks like a thing of the past. Dying the slow death like all of our Officer's Clubs . . . across the street, the health club has a full parking lot . . .
