Take the guided tour (free). I've been twice and enjoyed it just as much both times. Aircraft displays are incredible. I'm 61 and did the F-16 flight simulator. It was incredible--full barrel rolls. Loved it. DON'T miss this if you are in the Pensacola/Gulf Shores area!

For anyone with an interest in aviation, a museum like this is a dream come true. I cannot imagine a more complete collection of naval aircraft in one place. The quality of this museum is on par with the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville.

HUGE! Very nice museum. Loved the IMAX theater. You could spend a whole day here & still not see everything. we visited on a very rainy day. Glad we showed up early, because the parking lot fills up quickly!! Great place to visit with kids, especially if the beaches are not an option

Driving home from Pensacola we decided to visit the home of the Blue Angels, and saw the National Naval Aviation Museum ad in the local tourist magazine the hotel had. From our hotel on Pensacola Beach it took about 30 minutes to get to the museum, mostly via country roads or highways vs main arteries like I-10.

This museum is free - parking and entrance. There is planes all over the base, plus several just outisde the museum. Inside there is these great aircraft carrier ship models with historical information, and of course planes! Lots of planes, sorted by era and similar. From historical first flight planes to newer planes, all planes can be walked up to, peered into, and some you can climb into. There is several partial planes with cockpits for you to climb into and experience being 'in the seat'. Do not miss the upstairs portion, we found the new Flight Deck Virtual Reality interactive exhibit and now my 15 year old daughter says she wants to work on an aircraft carrier. Flight simulators are also upstairs ($10/person), and a cool exhibit on naval blimps/air ships.

The new hanger, hanger one, has even more exhibits, and some really unique items like Air Force One Helicopter (Nixon & Ford), an Antartica Ski Naval Cargo Plane, and a Korean War plane recovered by a brother of the pilot who was shot and killed flying it (co-pilot got it to base). We had a long drive home, so moved rather quickly, spending 3 hours or so in the museum. We could have easily spent more time, and would love to find a way back on Wednesdays when the Blue Angels sign autographs for visitors.

This is a good one for all ages, and there is a cafe that is highly rated on various review sites, but we didn't try it because we'd already eaten. The gift store is quite big, and has a lot of naval, aviation, and similar gift items.
