Stayed here on a business trip, and although arriving at around 10pm felt like I was bothering reception by wanting to check in at that point.

Went straight to the bar for something to eat, but they couldn't do anything at such a time. Even the tills in the bar were closed. Eventually managed to get something from room service. Don't understand why they can bring a plate of sandwiches to the room but not to a table in the bar.

The room was lovely. Very clean, well decorated, and quite modern.

The pool was nice and the gym staff friendly.

Breakfast was poor. A luke warm and greasy selection on the buffet with grey eggs. Not tasty at all. That was after climbing past the decorators in the corridor to get in to the breakfast room.

A lovely setting and generally pleasant enough hotel, but let down by poor food, and poor service.

We stayed for 1 night in June on a groupon deal. Room was lovely & clean and nicely furnished.
Our deal included evening meal & breakfast and both were delicious.
We had tried to book a massage but they couldn't fit us in so we went to a nearby Mercure hotel and had a lovely massage, shame we had to go elsewhere.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your kind comments.
It is pleasing to hear that you enjoyed your stay, however, the Vitality Beauty Spa is extremely busy and advance booking is recommended. We do hope to welcome you back in the future.
Kind Regards

We planned to stay here as a stop-over on our journey to the Lake District.

First impressions were favourable- a swish entrance and what looked like a fairly up market sports/Gym complex. The hotel room was large, comfortable and well furnished. whilst the room and bathroom was clean it was showing signs that some refurb might be needed soon.

We decided to eat in the hotel's restaurant. Unfortunately, it was a very underwhelming experience. The food was bland and reminiscent of school dinners from decades ago. I was asked if I had enjoyed my meal and told them it was adequate-not much was said as I paid up.

After a reasonable night sleep we left without having breakfast, keen not to repeat a visit to the 'school hall'.

Overall, this is a convenient hotel for a stopover to destinations 'up north'. The hotel rooms are more than adequate, clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't endear us to the Wrightington. I would stay here again, but drive to a local pub for a meal.

Room Tip: All rooms the same.

We stayed overnight on a Groupon deal and had a nice time. They are obviously very geared up to business travellers and on a Friday night the place seemed a little like the Marie Celeste. Having said that the reception team were courteous, and our room was clean and tidy.
The meal was pretty good, but not what I would have expected for a AA rosette restaurant. I was a tad suprised being asked to order my dessert choices when ordering the starters and mains, but the wait staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice.
I am not sure I would have been so satisfied if we had paid full price but it certainly was a nice break.

We stopped for two nights over the weekend. The reception welcome although efficient seemed to me to lack any warmth or enthusiasm, you were 'just' more guests to be dealt with.
The room was very nice and a good size. The bathroom coud have been better as some sealant round the toilet had broken away and the shower was high and fixed.
We had dinner there the first night and the food was excellent and the the service was good, friendly but efficient. The breakfast however was mediocre. There was not a particularly wonderful choice , the only eggs were fried and overdone and the rest was not up to the standard of the dinner. Also on the first morning sevice was poor refilling eggs ,bread ,bacon and we had to wait for them. While an overall rating of 3* is possibly harsh in our opinion it was less than 4*.

We bought a deal on Living social that included one night accom, a 3 course dinner in AA-Rosette Restaurant and full english breakfast. The accommodation was fine, clean and enough comfy pillows however the food really let this place down although the resturant host and waitresses/waiters were very friendly and professional.

We bought the voucher based on the AA-Rossette restaurant 3 course dinner and we were really disappointed. The Lancashire cheese and leek pie main that I chose was really bland with hardly any cheese in it and I couldn't even taste the leek. It came as two small pies and a salad, and I was not full at all. For desert I chose the apple pie that came with cream and a strawberry on top. I am allergic to strawberries, so the waitress happily took the apple pie back to the kitchen to get me a different piece and returned with a burnt/singed crust piece that was not at all enjoyable. Definitely not the AA-Rosette Restaurant experience we were hoping for.
We were looking forward to breakfast, and again, the service/waitress was fine and promptly brought us tea/coffee. The breakfast was a "serve yourself" bar. We went up to get our breakfast and when I sat down and cut into a sausage, there was tinfoil stuck down one side of it and also I noticed that no scrambled egg was available. To make toast there was one of the "roller grill" style machines where you put a piece of bread in and after a minute or 2, the toast comes out. Naturally, there was a queue to get to this grill and we decided to cut our losses. Again, we were really disappointed with the food here.

Maybe we should have been more cautious with booking a living social deal and lowered our expectations - however we would not recommend this hotel for a romantic night away/break.
