We checked in..room was outdated, couch was disgusting, door to balcony was stuck and broke. Beds were small and uncomfortable. Older kids drinking and noisy, and the besides the water being full of seaweed, which was completely disgusting. There were homeless people walking around asking for money. They hang out by the pool and hot tub. They congregate on the pathway on the right side of the hotel, so keep an eye on your kids. Also, I rented a seat for 35.00 for the day, never got to relax, too many college aged kids screaming, beer bonging and being completely rude. Will NEVER go back to this beach. Excellent stay for the college, drinking crowd. Not for families!

This was a nice hotel. It appeared to be very old and pretty pricey. But the room was clean and the noise wasn't bad at all. Overall it was a nice stay.

I have read through the numerous comments regarding stays at the Beachcomber By The Sea. My husband and I have been guests at the Beachcomber for about 10 years. Since we have retired, we are winter guests staying for 4 months. I believe we have the “inside” information regarding the Beachcomber. I’m going to address some of the comments as follows:

The Continental Breakfast: Does anyone really know what a Continental Breakfast consists of? Obviously, NOT. Well, it’s not eggs, toast, bacon, and potatoes. The Beachcomber’s Continental breakfast is: 3 different kinds of breakfast juices, milk, delicious coffee, cocoa, instant oatmeal, bagels, assorted jellies and jams, cream cheese, muffins, apples, bananas, and oranges. And the best part: FREE.

Scratches on the faucets? My only concern when I’m taking a shower is the fact that the tub is clean NOT that there are scratches on the faucets.

Mattresses: Yes, the mattresses are sometimes uncomfortable and lumpy; however, they are replaced on a semi-regular basis. Of course, it’s not going to be your pillow-top mattress.

The kitchenette: This area is comfortable to work in and could be considered a “2-butt” kitchen. Plenty of room to work in, but not so much that you’re wasting steps preparing your meals.

Stains on the sofa-bed: Two years ago, all the sofas, at various times, were re-upholstered. When we returned, there were stains from obviously “piggy” people. Is this how they take care of and treat their homes’ furnishings? Probably not! We weren’t happy with the stains, but I took a flat sheet from the dresser in the living room and put it over the sofa -- NO BIG DEAL!

A statement was made about someone banging on the doors on their floor at 3:00 a.m. -- someone drunk and couldn’t find their room. Didn’t it occur to these people to call down to the desk and report it. We had a similar situation where a group coming off the elevator were “tromping” along and I reported “elephants” on our floor. I called the front desk, security came up and checked it out -- NO MORE ELEPHANTS!

Bugs: Folks from the South call them “Palmetto” bugs. Up North, we call them “cockroaches.” In the almost 10 years that we’ve been staying at the Beachcomber, we’ve had 2 Palmetto bugs. Since we were leaving for the fishing pier, we told the front desk on our way out and we were informed that someone would come up and spray! Isn’t that what you would do at home?

The pool: Unless there was some sort of tropical depression or storm, we have never noticed the pool being dirty or un-kept. The maintenance staff squirts off the tables and all the chairs each morning and tidies up the pool deck area. During the colder months, January and February, if the water temperature appears to be a little cold or uncomfortable, the staff is very gracious to us and “ups” the water temperature.

Slow check-in: If you came down during Spring Break, didn’t it occur to you that there would be tons of people trying to check in also? I don’t believe there would have been a single property that was involved in the Spring Break check ins that could have “speeded-up” the check-in process. It’s SPRING BREAK!

The Lobby: The sofa is a beautiful caramel leather color, with end tables, a coffee table, lamps, a decorative chest, and 2 additional chairs. The color scheme is very inviting and the area is very comfortable. The comment was there were “old” magazines! Oh, my gosh.

Since we’re from Indiana and our main goal is to get away from the ice, sleet, snow, and cold weather up North, we don’t spend much time in our room. Why should we? Our main purpose for coming to P.C.B. is to enjoy the balmy weather. With all things considered, you can’t beat the view of the gulf from the balcony at the Beachcomber. To look out the picture window and see the beautiful emerald green water and the sugar white sand, is a trip to paradise. Absolutely, post card perfect.

Last, but certainly not least, is the entire Beachcomber Staff. The front desk receptionists, the cleaning staff, the maintenance staff, and the security guard, have ALWAYS been very kind, courteous, and respectful towards us. We are scheduled to return again this year and, as long as we’re able, we’ll be winter guests at the Beachcomber By The Sea.
