“Vacation from Hell - Dirty, Stinky, Not Enough Elevators, OK for Kids”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2008

I am writing this review while we are still here as I wanted to get the word out so others might not make the same mistake we did.

Our stay has been a nightmare. I really wish we had done some research on this place. We have been very fortunate with our stays in PCB over the last 20 years but this place really stinks.

It is advertised as being new but I have never stayed at a hotel that had such wide variety of bad smells and odors.

The crosswalk from the parking garage was the first place that we noticed a bad odor as well a lots of stains on the carpets.

By the way, plan on doing plenty of walking. The garage is across the street from the hotel and only two of the three floors offer covered parking so you may end up parking on the roof.

Then there was the 20 minute wait for an elevator on the day we checked in. Once finally on the elevator it was hot and had its own bad smells.

Our Condo had not been cleaned when we checked in yet we were informed that it was indeed ready and had been cleaned,

The showers were extremely dirty along with left over shaving cream and hair lining two of the three tubs in the condo.

The glass window going out onto the patio had not been cleaned.

All of the furniture had a layer of dust on it.

The kitchen counter had something sticky on it and had not been cleaned.

There were blood stains on two of the pillow cases (I'm not talking about a crime scene here but still, blood is something you don't want to see on your sheets and pillow cases).

We happened to look underneath one of the beds and noticed several used tissues a well???

Our carpets had stains in every room.

There is no wireless Internet in the rooms (only DSL and the only connection was near the kitchen sink). There is free wireless access but only in the main Lobby.

The pool situation is less than ideal. It is designed primarily for small children, is very noisy and please don't be fooled by the "lazy river". The lazy river is tiny and very overcrowded. The sun never shines on any of the so called pools.

There were unwashed dirty dishes in the dishwasher when we arrived.

There were not enough sheets and pillowcases and we had to make several calls to get this resolved.

On our second day there, the water shut off for the whole building for over 2 hours.

About the only positive thing I can say about my stay at this point is the Fitness Center. I did enjoy it enter even though it had its own unique odor. The odd thing is, it is only open from 9am to 9pm which I thought was not ideal.

BAD: too few luggage carts for the long trip from parking garage to hotel, not enough elevators (which were hot and slow), not enough deck chairs, problems getting add'l bedding, apparently parents don't understand that "no one under 12 allowed in hot tub" applied to THEIR kids. GOOD: Property was clean, saw security personnel frequently, kids loved the water park, 2 BR, 2BA w/ bunks unit was nicely decorated and comfortable. Overall a good place for people w/ kids 12 and under but for the money would go elsewhere if traveling with teenagers or no kids. Stayed on 20th floor - wonderful view and suprising quiet. Balcony larger than expected.

I was excited to plan a vacation there. After reading the reviews, i had second thoughts.

After calling to talk to someone at the resort and getting Achmed in India, i definately will not stay there. Not because i don't like India or the people, but after having a mortgage through Citi mortgage and dealing with India for the past two years and all the financial hassles they are in, i'm done with Indian ran anything. Yes, i refinanced, and i will not send anymore money to India though a gas station, hotel, or mortgage.

  • Liked — i got to talk to someone India when I made reservations. It was so neat
  • Disliked — i didn't get a real live american in Panama City

This was a brand new condo in 2007. We decided to check it out because of the kiddie area downstairs-waterslides, lazy river, pool, etc. for our 3 year old daughter and because we wanted somethin on the beach but away from the "teenage" crowd. Perfect! Beach is just a few stairs down from pool. Our 2 bedroom unit was decorated great! All beachfront balconies. Check-in & parking deck is across the street but there is a covered walk way that takes you to the condos. Highly recommended!

The property's web site is very misleading. The pools look larger than they really are. The dive-in theatre is just two small TV's by the "restaurant" by the pools, which is just a snack bar. The worst thing is you have to park across the street in a parking garage, check-in, and load your things and trek across a long, long breezeway across the road to the condo units. Every time you want to leave you have to trek this long, long breezeway and carry whatever you buy back. There were no restaurants within walking distance. They told us everything was operational and they had two heated pools. Their quote season does not start until May 1 but they don't tell you that. I called and specifically inquired about the heated pools, parking, et cetera, and was never told about how far the walk was to your condo unit. Overall, it was very misleading advertising and very overrated property.

We LOVED the room. It was the most beautiful room I've ever stayed in - 301west/301Awest. It was kind of 2 units together but could also be one - they called it a Mother-in-law suite.
We have 3 children ages 20-17-9. The 9yr old had the most fun at their water areas and arcarde (when it mentions bowling it means mini bowling). For the older ones they pretty much just had the beach and workout gym.
The pool areas were absolutly suffocating because they do not have enough deck space and it is right up against all the children's water areas so there really is no adult space except out on the beach. We finally did find a nook near the tiki-hut back away from the pools.
Hot tub is in general a Nice Idea and it does have a sign posted no children under 12. Well whatever, how they located it makes that virtually impossible. They butted it right up against the main children's waterpark and kids are constantly running over to it and jumping in.
Nice quick walk to the beach - right on it with no walkway - very nice, but not uncommon in this beach area.
Pools were not kept clean-same stuff was in there day after day.

Splash was very nice, but far from perfect. The unit was attractive but was quite small. We were in a 2 bedroom on the first floor and I would recommend staying on a higher floor because of the pool noise. The unit was very modern and clean but had some problems. The (non-wireless) internet connection was right next to the sink in the kitchen. On the plus side, the property was great! There were 4 pools. One in the sun, an identical one under the west tower in the shade, a little water park, a 'lazy river', and a tiny kiddie pool, but there wasn't enough deck space around the pools. Splash is quite noisy. There are lots of little kids running around. Splash is a wonderful place and is perfect for families with small children, but at the end of the day, it is just a Panama Cty, Beach condo.

  • Liked — The property was very impressive in size and had many special features.
  • Disliked — The property was very noisy.
