Our trip to the Sandpiper was not this last Christmas, but the Christmas before. The first hotel we THOUGHT we were staying at said they had a pool, which turned out to be a fitness club ACCROSS the street. We obviously left there and went to the Sandpiper. The first room we stayed in reminded me of the bottom cabins of the Titantic!
Gloomy and you felt like you were in a basement. Later moved to Very nice suite upstairs, ocean view, patio doors etc. The one problem we had was getting someone to fill the tanks down by the indoor lazy river for heat! It was freezing in the pool area, and NO one would fill the heat tanks. Mind you we were NOT the only ones there. Lots of people were there for Christmas that year. We froze our butts off every time we went down there. Mind you the Tiki Bar was ROASTING with heat!!
imagine that! But my kids lips were blue from being cold. Yes the parking was bad. Had to pull accross the street into trafic to get out.
Other then that, we enjoyed our stay, got a great deal on a room for the time of year. The beach was beautiful! Just nothing to do really in the off season.

We stayed at this resort in the past (01) and it was a great time. We have a small boston terrier. This resort is about the only one left on the beach that allows small pets. It was a last minute decision to take a short trip to the beach, so Sandpiper it was. Jan 1-4. It was several minutes checking in w/all the signing and deposits for the dog, tv etc.
We got a King room w/partial ocean view. Most of our view was the condo next door...left side of resort...right side of resort has palm trees and a better view which is where we stayed the first time there. After putting our things away we turned the tv on to relax after a long day of driving. The TV sound was distorted and muffled, so we called front desk, they sent a matainance guy. He was so rude...he turned the tv up very very loud...then he turned it off.... then back on again, he then looked at us as if we were stupid or something and said "there is nothing wrong with this tv" (we are in our mid 40's) We asked him if could just get us another tv...he stepped back into the doorway and said "you're not going to tell me to get you another tv" we called management to come to our room to listen to the tv and report the way we were treated. The manager would not come to our room, he said policy would not allow him to leave office area (hmm). After playing phone tag with the manager he decided to move us to another room instead of changing out the tv set. After 40 minutes of dealing with this situation he finally sent another person in (not the rude guy, beacause we would not allow him back in our room) to switch out the tv. This was so uncalled for. We did NOT ask for another thing! So much for a short get-a-way to de-stress!

This was my second trip to Panama City Beach, and the warm weather during the day was a welcome change from the cold Illinois weather. My prior trip was in the summer, which wasn't as nice due to the crowds. We stayed at the Sandpiper Beacon Hotel in an ocean-view room with a full kitchen. The rooms are clean, and the hotel was renovating some of the rooms while we were there. It was very relaxing, and there were planned activities/trips that were available for more active people. The sunsets there are spectacular!

It was AWESOME...two words Tiki Bar! I have to say that I had the most fun at the sandpiper beacon on spring break 2003! there were definately things that were not good about the place but every hotel has their bad parts! seriously we went out only one night of the entire trip because what's the point in going out when you have the tiki bar right there and you can meet people so close to your room!!! i definately wouldn't wanna be a family staying there on spring break but for college students it's the best!

What an unexpected delight your establishment was for us when we discovered our usual haunt on the strip had been closed. Great rates and everything in one spot. Supermarket and drug store one block away. Fresh seafood everyday, sea aquarium close by, dog track close by, sun all day long, fishing at your doorstep, bar-b-q's at your doorstep, lots to do, great neighbors, wonderful staff, and all at reasonable rates. What more could anyone want. The room was clean and we had everything to make ourselves self-sufficient. Have recommended it to friends with small children - how safer could they be than at this all-in-one resort. We will certainly be back, and we will be bringing the whole family next time.
