The Shrimp Boat is a fascinating place to bring guests. It is huge and quite beautiful. The owners are wonderful people and very generous to friends. The fine dining in the Shrimp Boat is first rate, the staff knowledgeable and very efficient. They have a wide variety to offer with the attached Oyster Bar midway in the building, and a beautiful view of the Bay from Gracie Ray's at the far end which virtually sits on the water. It also offers a nice selection of food and drink.

My family and I have eaten at the Shrimp Boat a few times since they have opened. The building and location are beautiful: waterfront on a working marina with views of the bay. The restaurant is huge inside with plenty of seating at a variety of large and small tables, booths, or at one of two bars. And to not be confused, there are two other food establishments in the same building with different names but owned by the same people. In a city full of so-so restaurants, this place stands out as somewhere special to take your loved ones.

The prices here are higher than other places but you are paying for service, presentation, and atmosphere. However, the seafood is fresh and most is actually from the Gulf of Mexico, so if you value that at all you know it costs more than imported stuff from Asia. Tonight we were served by Charles, a friendly and outgoing guy who was attentive despite getting hit with several large tables at once. We started with the bacon wrapped scallops which were large and delicious, grilled nicely and very tasty. We each ordered a different meal, all of which come with a side, salad, and rolls. I started with the she-crab soup, which was a nice blend of sweet cream and sherry. The shrimp and grits was excellent, though was quite spicy tonight, a change from previous times. We also ordered the crab cakes, the delmonico steak and shrimp, the broiled seafood combo (shrimp, scallops, fish, and a stuffed crab), and fried catfish dinner. My family commented that their food was very good and well-prepared. The steak was superbly done and fork-tender, the crab cakes were well-seasoned, and the broiled seafood was plentiful. Even the standard fried catfish received good reviews.

I don't know what the people who wrote negative reviews are used to eating or where they normally go, but I like the Shrimp Boat and feel like the food and atmosphere are equal to the price. And I really like the hush puppies too!

After reading the negative comments on this page, we started not to go. But, after our 'very possitive' exsperience, we realized pissed off people were more likely to leave comments than people that have possitive experiences. Went with hubby. Sat outside during a beautiful sunset. Seared diver's scallops for app...Oh my...You HAVE GOT to try these. The server said they were her favorite. The way she explained how searing caramelizes them, made us try them without looking at the other appetizers on the menu. Very glad we did!! She also suggested grilled tuna (rare) with she crab jalapeno sauce and the lorenzo steak. She said the tuna is normally served with some kind of asian sauce. But, for $2 you can get the she crab jalapeno sauce. I had the sauce minus the jalapenos. Then she said "customers use the best adjectives when describing the lorenzo steak". We found out why... it's delish. :) It's a filet mignon cooked how you like it, (med rare for hubby) cut in thin slices and put on top of garlic mashed potatoes then topped with grilled onion and some kind of wonderful salty, sweet sauce. I think she said it was made with worshdishire. She also suggested to save room for dessert....WHITE CHOCOLATE CREME BRULEE. Oh yes we did! We were going to order the chocolate 'tower' cake. She warned us that it is big enough to feed 5 or 6 people. Then, another server walked by with one for his table, and we saw how gigantic it is... The only 'almost', bad thing I found was the charge for soda refills. But, we drink sweet tea. Even the sweet tea was awesome. You should give them a try. You won't be disappointed.
