“Pleasant Surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

We stayed here as part of a wedding . It took us 1.5 hrs from our home in Winter Park. The drive was all hwy. The resort is on the beach with great golfing(so I'm told).

It was nice to see a beach without cars on it. Very old FLorida(in a good way).

The dining was fine. Informal without being too beachy

Room Tip: get a room with a corner view and windows. Ours was typical and very dark

The property is beautiful, the room was perfect. My husband and I booked a night after our wedding and were astonished by the poor service and faux pas. First, we were able to check in hours early which was fantastic. But, after we got eloped, we had family in our room to celebrate with us. Suddenly, someone rang the doorbell. It was room service with a bottle of wine, fruit, cheeses, and a card. She was mispronouncing my new name, but proceeded to hand me the gifts. Suddenly, she realized she was 1 room over from the correct recipients and TOOK THE THINGS BACK even after I told her we just got married and it was her mistake. Then, we went to the sushi bar on property. It was overpriced and our obviously intoxicated server brought us our salad, then did not serve us for an hour. He didn't take our order, he didn't refill our drinks, but then proceeded to take orders from people who hadn't even been sat yet. Disgusted, we left and were told by the general manager that he would comp our dinner at Delfino's (also on property) to make up for the horrible sushi experience. When we went to Delfino's, he did not deliver on his promise. We were charged for our meal UNTIL it came out incorrect and then they comped it. When I spoke with concierge about the wine and cheese faux pas, they promised to send up a complimentary bottle of wine to our room. They never did. We woke up early this morning to watch the sunrise, so I ordered some hot chocoloate from room service. It was $10 and disgusting. Had we not left our room, it would have been perfection. This resort is beautiful, but a joke. NEVER AGAIN.

Room Tip: Oceanview Rooms in Main Tower are to die for.

Attended wedding. The entire wedding, reception, and dinner were hosted at the resort. Wife and I spent 2 nights here. In a largely residential area this 11 story building really stands out. Room is over decorated. Everything very tasteful, just way to much. Room does include small frig, microwave, 2 burner range. No cooking equipment, so not sure what you are suppose to do with the range. Looks like all rooms are ocean front with balconies. Only complaint: room advertised as one bedroom suite. It is in fact a slightly larger hotel room with a slight partition with no door between bedroom and sitting area. Parking is very convenient in a garage under the building.

The property is very nice with large pool complex - family pool with water slide, quiet adult pool, kiddie pool with beach and walkin, lazy river, sand volleyball. Adult and family pools are heated. Oh, and there is an indoor pool as well with marked lanes for lap swimming. Fitness center is first class. Great, modern equipment. Best food value in the whole place is free bottled water in fitness center. Two beautiful golf courses getting little play during our visit. Beach is very quiet, advantage of being the only big resort.

Housekeeping first rate. Everything really clean. Food is mediocre, not what one would expect at such a place. Real downfall is the staff. Bartenders at reception and wait staff at the wedding dinner were very accomodating. Everyone else was grumpy. Unbeknownst to the guests, the reception bars closed. All we knew was, the bartenders left. One lady standing there to refill her wine, bartender walked away, so she helped herself. A surly fellow steps behind the bar and informs her, and everyone else in earshot, THE BAR IS CLOSED! Fortunately, the lady had the presence to ignore him and finish pouring her glass! Front desk staff (they call everyone at the front desk a concierge). They weren't getting their concierge on when we were there. All very officious. Efficient, but not particularly welcoming. (Hint, check into a Marriott, see how its done).

After dinner, many of the wedding party descended on the only bar in the place. Hardly anyone else there and 4, count em 4, bartenders. Well, you'd think we interrupted their evening. Not at all pleasant. Chill people! Its a wedding party, we're trying to be happy.

Next day, while wife and I were spending $16 for coffees, and danish in the lobby (including the apparently mandatory 20%) the younger folks made a grocery run. Went to the pool deck to eat. Were informed, politely, that outside food was not allowed on the pool deck ,we would have to decamp to a table outside the pool area. He vaguely waved his hand in the direction of the ocean. We moved to the area indicated. Not 5 minutes later same fellow, again very politely, tells us we haven't gone far enough. Good grief! Is there not a lne between protecting your profits from poor, college kids and being rude? Ridiculous. Let it go people. The resort won't fail if you just relax a little. Thus the low ratings for service and value.

Last, I continue to be totally annoyed by the "resort fee" which for me reaches new heights here at $18/day. Not a problem if you put an ankle monitor on me to be sure I don't actually use any facilities. But to make it mandatory, just put it in the room rate. (To be fair, they do disclose the resort fee on the website.)

Suggest you stop at the Publix grocery store on highway A1A, just west of the resort if you want to save big on food bill. Can also drive 10 minutes into Palm Coast.

Bottom line, great facility, very clean. Spa, pools, gym top notch. Mediocre food, spotty service,

The resort is located in a very beautiful place. The water park is fantastic. Atlantic Ocean restaurant is upscale. During our check in process we asked for a higher floor and they provided with no extra fees (amazing view from the higher floors, I recommend). We stayed in a 3 bedrooms apartment and they´re very comfortable and well decorated. They need to improve bike´s rental service (nothing for kids ride).

Room Tip: Ask for the higher floors to have better views.

We were on spring break with a family of 4, stayed in a 3 bedroom in main tower. Great layout and plenty roomy. Not quite as nice as newer ocean tower, but was well appointed with w/d, two terraces, full kitchen and three spacious B/R's. Our room was a decent ocean view, but not great as we we overlooked a portion of the parking lot. We went with another family, neither of our first time, and we all felt that for the money, its tough to beat the amenities of a place like this. The kids are so happy with all the pool fun--great slide, lazy river, "beach" pool--and its well laid out and easy to keep an eye on the younger ones. The beach has plenty of room and they set up chairs and umbrellas for you at no charge--nice. There is plenty of staff around if ever you need them for food, drinks, help etc. The restaurants are all good, there is self parking, and the place is just easy--which is great when you have kids.

Room Tip: corner rooms are great and have good views

A great place with wonderful staff, beautiful pools, the best ever poolside hot tub, and a pretty beach, with an endless beach walk at low tide! Great for families, and a full grocery very close withwine and beer as well. For 2, the 2 room unit is terrific and roomy, with a great ocean view! We will return often!

Room Tip: Can't beat the 2 room units in the main building!

The place is a great family resort . Something for everyone, golf for him, spa for her, lazy rivers and swimming pools, and the Atlantic Ocean (bring aqua socks there are rocks on this beach).
The problem occurs when you are cursed with foul weather(torrential downpours and tornados) your entire stay. Since we were not able to venture off the property for dining or entertainment , we thought a beautiful property like that would have what we expected....we were surprised, not in a good way.
The on site "Italian" restaurant "Delfino's" was mediocre at best..... maybe a notch above "Olive Garden". Service was very slow for a half full restaurant on a Saturday night. Entrees and cocktails were way overpriced for the quality. The ambiance was ok and the waitstaff was friendly enough.

Loggerheads is the sports bar / nightclub? Very, very slow drink service,
house band was okay if you like old music... 70's some 80's. There was a wedding going on at the lodge that had much better music with a DJ, we really were tempted to crash that for some fun because Loggerheads was a snoozefest!

The Atlantic Grille had great views, but again really slow service and inconsistent food quality for the price.

I would love to return to this resort and take full advantage of everything they have to offer in fair weather, but I would definitely venture off premises for dinning and entertainment .
